Toronto—A Canadian basketball player is being “forced to decide between being a breastfeeding mom or an Olympic athlete.” Kim Gaucher says COVID-19 rules prevent her from bringing her daughter, Sophie, who was born in March, to the Tokyo Olympics next month. In an Instagram video, she adds that she has tried appeals but “nobody can do anything.” The 37-year-old Gaucher is looking into options, such as shipping milk, but has run into complications. Gaucher says Olympic organizers have said “no friends, no family, no exceptions.” The Canadian women’s team is ranked fourth in the world.

A Federal Aviation Administration advisory group is urging the agency to replace words like “airman” and “cockpit” with gender-neutral terms like “aviator” and “flight deck.” The FAA’s Drone Advisory Committee put forth the recommendations in a report released Wednesday, part of a broader push for equity in the agency and aviation industry. “Research shows that the utilization of gender-neutral language can lead to a more inclusive environment that draws more people to the industry and helps keep them there,” the report states. The committee offered several alternatives for terms commonly used in the industry, such as using “manufactured” or “fabricated” instead of “man-made.”

A Newark homeowner called in police last week after four Black nationalists moved into a new home she was renovating and declared that as sovereign citizens of the Al Moroccan Empire, “their status permitted them access to the property,” authorities said. NBC News reports that the four men, who’d changed the locks on the Ivy Street house, agreed to leave, but one of them returned a short time later to reclaim the property that had been purchased by an unidentified woman in February. Hubert A. John, a 39-year-old man from Los Angeles, reportedly stepped over the woman while she was on her porch, hung a red Moorish flag

Vice President Kamala Harris appeared to remind President Biden to mention the deadly South Florida condo collapse before leaving a White House event Thursday. Biden had given remarks on infrastructure and taken questions from the press on that issue as well as voting rights. He then attempted to wrap up by telling reporters “I’ve got to get to a helicopter” before Harris approached. The president and vice president exchanged a brief, whispered conversation that concluded with Harris saying, “Florida, yeah.” “Oh, yes. I apologize,” Biden said, turning back to the microphone as Harris retreated out of camera view.
