Plant-based and additional meatless products are accused of misleading buyers under a bill the Texas House approved Monday.
“Texas is the latest state to debate measures that would prohibit foods that don’t contain animal products from using words like ‘meat’ or ‘beef’ in their name,” the Dallas Morning News reported.
The bill was approved following a debate but needs one additional vote in the House to move on to the Texas Senate.
According to Rep. Brad Buckley, his bill would help protect consumers, including vegetarians and vegans, from purchasing a product by mistake.

#1, you're going to pay or you're going to pay. It's either property taxes or state income taxes. Let me remind you, there ain't no free lunch.

The right response to the issue is implied at.the end of the article. Call the plant-based substance "Misteak".

Yes #1. They must address the daily emergency at the Texas Mexico border. The property taxes in West Texas going crazy. The massive influx of population is already stressing our roads, schools and municipal services all over Texas. They sound like they are trying to find busy work to avoid dealing with our real emergencies.

Seems like a no-brainer. Let's hope other states follow suit.

Oh, please. Every supermarket I’ve ever been in has all of the plant based “meat” products in the same section along with the tofu, soy cheese, etc. It’s impossible to miss. Unlike when I lived in Belgium 1981-82 where the beef and the horse meat were side by side in the meat case and I had to carefully read the labels.
These days, you have to read the labels to see whether our not your meat purchases are “halal” due to the Muslim invasion of Europe. For those of you who don’t know, halal requires that animals have their throats slit and are then allowed to bleed out. As with everything else having to do with Islam, it is unnecessarily inhuman and barbaric.

How about a good old Texas terminology, "It looks like meat but it ain't".

Did you know that china cuts and packs our meat. The meat is sent to china, and its processed there and shipped back to the USA. Raised here but not processed here. Read the labels

You know, exactly like you did with muslims and pork products, without being prompted by a law. Take notice, Burger King. I know that labeling something a Seaweed Sandwich does not sound as appealing but let's be honest, okay?

#2, you could be lucky enough to live in Pennsylvania and pay both property AND state income, or Virginia and West Virginia and buy expensive vehicle stickers on top of that for everything you drive. If government doesn't get you one way they get you both ways! Don't even THINK about moving to New Jersey where taxes won't be your only problem.

#7, much of halal is the same as kosher. Muslims and Jews are first cousins, it's a family feud and those are always the worst kind!

Simply require packaging to use the term LAB GROWN MEAT. That will will take the edginess off the product.

Good. Don't let these veg folks lie to us. Not interested in their veggy burgers etc. Even if it were to taste wonderful, I wouldn't want it. I want real MEAT, not some fake crap thrown together in a lab to pretend to be meat. REAL meat. I go out and kill animals for their meat. I do eat plenty of veggies, too. But they are separate things.

We all pay way too much in taxes. We need to roll back government on every level; every government system needs to be blown up and reverted back to the good old days when citizens ran governments not politicians.

Right on #16. I don’t eat meat as I can’t anymore and plenty of us long ago make our own veggie burgers. They are delicious and my meat-eating family loves them too. We are not interested in plastic meat, thank you!

As for the fake meat that Burger King has been using for a couple years in their fake Whoppers, the FDA said that the fake meat is "probably safe." Why are they serving something that's merely "probably safe?"

Actually, #11, all the meat around here is processed in the processing factories in SW Kansas....staffed almost 100% by illegal aliens, unfortunately.

Just use an honest ingredient list. Those who want to buy plant burgers are welcome to do so. But also let us meat-eaters know if it is 100% beef, chicken, pork, etc. Also would like to know where all this "stuff" comes from.
