The days of rogue district court judges hijacking executive authority may finally be numbered. On Thursday, the Supreme Court is set to hear arguments in a consolidated case, Trump v. CASA, which challenges lower court rulings that blocked President Trump’s executive order ending birthright citizenship for children born in the U.S. to illegal immigrants. Despite the constitutional authority granted to the executive branch on immigration matters, three district judges issued sweeping nationwide injunctions halting the order. Now, the highest court may have the chance to rein in judicial overreach and restore balance between the branches of government.
Since President Trump began his second term,

I wouldn't count on anything from this court. We have three brain dead libs plus Roberts for a solid four votes against Trump. Then we have the weasels, Barrett and Kavanaugh who are intimidated by the leftist mob. This is no slam dunk.

And .....I am worried that these Roberts court folks will NOT rein in these out of control 'judges', but will give them free license instead.
I very sincerely hope that I am wrong and they stop this mass judicial lawbreaking.

I'm with posters #1 and #2. That is, I wouldn't trust "CHIEF JUSTICE" John Roberts with. . . ANYTHING! I think he's a compromised POS!

If Roberts were truly concerned about the legitimacy of the judiciary and protecting its precious (and Unconstitutional) right of "judicial review" then he and the SC would rein in the lower courts. But I do not believe that is what motivates Roberts... I believe that is what the Russians call "kompromat." So Roberts can be expected to endorse rogue and out-of-control courts and setting outrageous judicial precedents, just as he did when he rescued Obamacare from what should have been a certain strike-down..
It will take a joint action by the executive and legislative branches to repudiate John Marshall's 1803 assertion to end this judicial tyranny.

They are not "Set to." The Court Jesters do not have enough intelligent and rational people to override the extremists and the sexually confused members so it could easily go the other way. Cutting their own throats is never a problem for the clueless.

Yup, I will bet that even if Roberts supports a ruling, it will be such a tortured conclusion that you will wonder what law it came from. (A clue, none. Roberts makes it up as he goes along.)
This is what happened with BOCare. In declaring a penalty, as it was SPECIFICALLY sold by the people who created BOCare, as a "tax", Roberts preserved the law instead of striking it down. While BOCare has since been sliced and diced into a shade of what it was, it persists today as a ghostly reminder of BAD lawmaking and BAD court decisions. And it's all due to Roberts. At the time people thought he was trying to please everyone, but knowing him better now, we know he is a closet Leftist and he "saved" BOCare from being shoved off a cliff, as it should have been. Roberts badly corrupted law to do that, which is a classic sign of liberal judges.
So, it's FAR too early to celebrate. IF Roberts tries to dance out of this however AND he can corrupt Coney Barrett to go along with him, I suspect the Conservative judges are going to eviscerate him in their opposing opinions. This is a fundamental Constitutional question of the structure of the Courts and the Conservatives will SAY SO.
Further, if Trump takes a stronger hold in Congress at the midterms, it is likely that the Congress may "correct" any such liberal opinion that Roberts might make. They can't reverse the SCOTUS but they CAN restructure the operation of the lower courts. THAT power clearly lies with the legislature. Roberts would HATE that solution but he might be forced to swallow it.

While no one can predict the long term, at least for the immediate future this decision weighs heavily on the moral authority of the court and it's popular and social legitimacy. They say Supreme Court justices read election results. Did this one read anything on Nov 5?

The only thing you can count on with Roberts is that he's going to stymie the Trump agenda through action, or inaction.....and on this one, my guesstimate is that he'll sit on his hands and straddle the fence.

Let's hope their huge egos will help them come to the constitutional decision! Why do we even need the Supreme Court if federal district judges have authority over what constitutionally should be a Supreme Court matter?

This will be a very tough choice for Roberts and Barrett.
Do they follow the Constitution - - or do they get a puff piece in the New York Times?
It would not surprise me - - at all - - if they chose the latter. Priorities are priorities.

@#6 - Referring to Congress, you stated - "They can't reverse the SCOTUS". Actually, they can. Nothing is ever etched in stone when it comes to a particular law. Should the SC strike down a law , Congress can pass something very similar, change the wording a bit, and if signed by the president, the process starts all over again.

Roberts is a weak chief justice. He caters to the leftists on his court, seeking always to maintain harmony and comity among the justices. In that respect, he's like Mitt Romney--too focused on "getting along" and confusing true leadership with cheery appearances. I'll never forget when Roberts changed his position on Obamacare. He had been in favor of striking Obamacare down, and had been in lockstep with Antonin Scalia, a toweringly more astute legal scholar. Then Roberts committed his abrupt about-face. Scalia was aghast and aggrieved at such a character fail from a Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. I suppose one day we'll discover just what secret "kompromat" the evil Obama used to blackmail Roberts into changing his position. Maybe one day we'll also discover the truth behind Scalia's untimely death.
