Miami’s ‘Little Venezuela’ fears
Trump’s moves against migration

Doral, Fla. — Wilmer Escaray left Venezuela in 2007 and enrolled at Miami Dade College, opening his first restaurant six years later. Today he has a dozen businesses that hire Venezuelan migrants like he once was, workers who are now terrified by what could be the end of their legal shield from deportation. Since the start of February the Trump administration has ended two federal programs that together allowed more 700,000 Venezuelans to live and work legally in the U.S. along with hundreds of thousands of Cubans, Haitians and Nicaraguans. In the largest Venezuelan community in the United States,

I also hope we can find a legal pathway for Venezuelans who haven't committed crimes. They are on sufferance everywhere, not quite allowed, only on the edges of things, suspected, trouble getting loans no matter how good their businesses are. Where are they supposd to be? I have heard at present the pay for a week of unskilled labor in Venezuela is $10. What are they supposed to do? It is Maduro's fault. It is the Russians' fault because they would not let Maduro step down when he was willing to. The ones I personally know are good and smart and talented and educated, and put their faith in God because no one else cares.

Spend some time on DuoLingo with free English lessions? Have pride in your protector's culture that you wish to accept as your own?

I kept reading the words Venezuela and Venezuelan in the article. This is America and despite sweet smells wafting from Venezuelan kitchens in Florida Americans need to get their country back. Our forbears fought for and built this country. Perhaps Wilmer and his employees should do the same for their descendants in their own homeland.

Man, I hate to sound cold, however: Let's say, for example, I got several speeding tickets and somehow managed to evade authorities for several years. If I were to finally get nabbed one day and found myself suddenly facing jail time, would anyone be writing sympathetic articles on my behalf? Would there be protests? Would someone start a GoFundMe account on my behalf? I didn't think so. They may be otherwise fine people but they knew darned well what they were doing when they crossed the Rio Grande River and jumped that fence. The ones who came here illegally know that they are wrong. Try this in any other country on the planet and see what happens to you.

The U.S. does not have a problem with migrants. The real problem is ILLEGALS. Come to this country the right way and abide the law and we welcome you! Come here illegally and we will send you back and never think you will be welcome again.

The US I grew up in and love was conquered, settled and built by people of primarily European ancestry. Our ideas and traditions largely come from there. Well, not anymore. Our "Hate America First" government has allowed in so many 3rd world animals their cultures have polluted ours. If we must have legal immigrants, how about some European ones? You know, ones like us?

Unfortunately for the good people, the only exposure that most of the country will ever have to Venezuela illegal immigrants is the nightly national news reporting on the latest crimes committed by the gang members, their arrests, deportations, and lawsuits over their deportations. This makes most non-liberal citizens angry about illegals from Venezuela.

The North Carolina Supreme Court halted a previous order from the state appeals court requiring the verification of 65,000 questionable ballots. This case has been bouncing around between state and federal courts. Last week the North Carolina Court of Appeals ruled that approximately 65,000 ballots — cast by voters with incomplete registration information, missing photo identification, or submitted by individuals who have never lived in North Carolina — may be invalid under state and federal election law. The 2-1 decision was authored by Judges John Tyson and Fred Gore both registered Republicans.
