Dangerous, heavy rainfall has swamped the streets of Florida in some of the worst weather to hammer the state in years. The storm turned several roads in south Florida into rivers and lakes, forcing locals to abandoned their cars and wade through the water. Interstate 95 reopened early on Thursday morning after the Florida Highway Patrol closed parts closed parts of the major artery after it much of it was left underwater.Governor Ron DeSantis has declared a state of emergency for five counties as residents prepare to weather more heavy rainfall today and tomorrow, which forecasters warn could trigger flash floods in central and south Florida.

I lived in SW FL 2000-2016 and remember an 11" rainfall but there was no flooding with it. Article says climate change is going to make for a more active hurricane season. That wouldn't be because it is going to an El Nino season from La Nina?

DM weather hysteria. Shocking! (Not) Yep, Florida thunderstorms are like no other. I've lived a lot of places, but only in Florida did I find it necessary to come to a stop and get off the highway when driving due to rain so heavy that driving was impossible due to no vision. Almost hit a speed limit sign one time while exiting the road at 5 mph, because I couldn't see the post until I was 10 feet from it, wipers running at max speed. But....much of Florida is sand, water soaks in - although the water table many places is only 4 feet down. So, some places it soaks in quickly, other places turn back into the swamps they were before we drained them a bit.

We get huge thunderstorms in Louisiana. One summer it rained every day for six weeks. I was home sick at the time and every afternoon, I waited for the storm. It's just water. It runs off. It's happened forever on this planet. Will continue to do so long after we're gone. If you see standing water, don't drive through it, go around it.

I live in Boca Raton and it rained all day yesterday. The major problem here is insufficient drainage. Streets flood in a matter of minutes. We're under another special weather warning. So more rain is coming again today. And yes south of here in Miami and Ft. Lauderdale I-95 was terrible.

Heavy rain in Florida in the summer, and for that matter possible in any season in Florida, is not big time news. Yeah, it's flooding there, and yeah it's pretty bad, especially in some of the cities. This happens fairly often in Gulf Coast states subject to tropical rainfall, see Houston for instance. I just hope no one gets injured or killed due to flood waters, this time or any other time. The main problem is urbanization. Pure and simple. The rural areas are likely not near as bad off as the cities since runoff in concrete jungles is exacerbated by insufficient drainage and repeat rounds of heavy rainfall. The bigger the cities, the bigger the flooding problem. Not upper mathematics by any stretch of the imagination. However, to the climate change lunatics this is sure fire proof of global warming/climate change. The truth doesn't matter to the loons despite major flooding occurring in metropolitan areas for decades and decades, especially in more tropical type areas. As urban areas have grown, the flooding problems have grown. Again, not rocket science. I hope they catch a break soon in Florida. Time will tell.

I don't suppose underbuilding rain drainage systems could contribute. It's not like rain there is a rare occurrence.

Could it be that the storm drains just needed a gulley-washer rain to clear the cobwebs? #3 is right... Louisiana gets the most frog-strangling rain of anywhere in the US. East Texas (Houston) not far behind. I still extend tanks to the Cajun Navy for what they did after Harvey. They became the Uber service for dozens of neighborhoods for a couple weeks along the Buffalo Bayou. Why? Because rain is what LA is all about.

The U.S. House of Representatives has recently passed an amendment as part of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2025. The amendment H.R. 8070 will automatically register all draft-age male U.S. residents with the Selective Service System for a possible military draft, based on information from other Federal databases. This new system of automatic draft registration would replace the existing system, in place since 1980, in which young men have the freedom to decide whether or not to sign up for the draft. According to People’s World, the automatic draft registration proposal was initiated by the Selective Service System (SSS) as part of its annual budget request to Congress.

The mental acuity of the joke that currently occupies the Bully Pulpit arose in February, when special counsel Robert Hur released his report concerning Joe Biden’s handling of classified documents. Hur’s investigation found that Biden had, on numerous occasions, illegally mishandled classified documents. Furthermore, “during his [Biden’s] interview with Hur, the special counsel wrote that the president was confused about the timeline of events and was unable to ascertain questions about his time as vice president.” It continued in March, with Brit Hume saying, “I was saying back when it was not at all fashionable to say it, that he [Biden] is senile.

A Politico-Morning Consult poll found that Harris has a net disapproval rating of 52-42 percent with the majority doubting that she would even have a chance to win the presidency if she were the Democratic nominee. Just three in five Democrat voters said they would vote for the vice president, with only 25 percent of independent voters saying they would cast their ballot for her.

Washington— Speaker Mike Johnson said Friday that the House will go to court to enforce the subpoena against Attorney General Merrick Garland for access to President Joe Biden’s special counsel audio interview, hours after the Justice Department refused to prosecute Republicans’ contempt of Congress charge. “It is sadly predictable that the Biden Administration’s Justice Department will not prosecute Garland for defying congressional subpoenas even though the department aggressively prosecuted Steve Bannon and Peter Navarro for the same thing,” Johnson said in a statement. “This is yet another example of the two-tiered system of justice brought to us by the Biden Administration.”

Former President Donald Trump turned 78 on Friday, and the establishment media are already hyping his age, claiming he is showing signs of aging, like President Joe Biden, who turned 81 in November. Matthew Foster, a professorial lecturer at American University, told Agence France-Presse (AFP) that Trump has a “drunken uncle vibe.” Foster’s comment comes as several polls have shown that voters are concerned about Biden’s age. “He’s giving off the old, drunken uncle vibe at times when he is giving these speeches, and this might be a sign of age, that you become less able to control all of your impulses,” Foster told the outlet.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) issued the ban at former president Donald Trump’s urging after the gunman who killed 58 people in a 2017 Las Vegas shooting was found to have used bump stocks, which increase a rifle’s rate of fire by using the recoil from a semiautomatic rifle to fire bullets in rapid succession.
