Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) said Monday he supports bringing Republican House business to a halt until as late as March next year if it means electing someone besides House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) to be speaker.
Gaetz, one of five outspoken opponents of McCarthy, told Charlie Kirk in an interview he would rather wait weeks and have “sort of a turbulent takeoff” than have McCarthy be speaker.
“I’m saying we could see the cherry blossoms bloom and not have a speaker. I hope it doesn’t come to that,” Gaetz said, in reference to the popular flower in D.C. that blooms annually around the end of March.

The question is: Will McCarthy actually take on the issues that need taking on in a forceful way like MTG says he will, or will he be a cocktail party establishment Republican like McConnell. I'm not at all certain that we have the luxury of waiting to find out which.

I understand both sides of this argument. I loathe squishy Kevin, but I also don't relish this situation eating up a lot of precious time.
It's sickening.

If no Speaker means no more spending or tyranny for a while, I'm good with it. We need to clean our own house before we can deal with the devilcrats (aka uniparty). McCarthy could just withdraw, and all this would go away; he wasn't born to be Speaker, and the world won't fall apart if he isn't. This is as much about him and his evil desire to be Speaker than MTG's handwringing. He's held the office before and didn't do such a great job; he needs to give someone else a chance; he should think about the voters and the country for once. Besides, the delay may help our side get their stuff together so they can work for the people for a change. They can shut down all of Washington for all I care. Again, McCarthy could withdraw from consideration. Remember that.

I am no fan of McCarthy and really want some new faces in positions of leadership. But having the pubbies devour themselves while their committees all are forced to sit on their hands while the Speakership is fought over is worse than giving him the Speaker's job. If Gaetz goes ahead with his threat this would put the dims and the msm in the driver's seat ahead of the 2024 election.
McCarthy, a question - you still aren't out there on your soap box to sell yourself to Gaetz and the rest of your own party. Is there a problem here?
McCarthy and felllow pubbies, regardless of the outcome, please do not snatch defeat from the jaws of victory on this matter. Please do what is right, whatever right is.

Cut the crap. Band together, quit bitching and finally, do the job you're supposed to be doing. Infighting is playing the dems' game for them.

The usual choice we are faced with every time with the republicans in Congress, is going along and accepting a lesser evil, in this case the lying, traitorous, corrupt McCarthy. This reality can no longer be tolerated. It has led to the ruination of our country even when republicans control both Houses. Remember how McConnell and that little feces stain Ryan could have joined with President Trump and truly reformed our Government? Remember how they betrayed us? Matt Gaetz is correct in saying enough is enough, that we will no longer go down this path to defeat by having someone like a stealth democrat McCarthy lead the House. He will betray us. Keep in mind that in the end choosing to accept a lesser evil is still accepting evil ruling over us.
Radical change must be imposed on the republican party or we will all soon be living our lives being totally controlled under the bloodthirsty yoke of the communist death democrats. We are in a life and death struggle for our freedoms and we are losing.
We can no longer trod the path of compromise or accepting the status quo. This is the road to final defeat. This means not choosing to elect McCarthy or McConnell to any positions of power. So called republicans like Collins, Graham, Tillis, or the dreadful Murkowski must be brought to heel and denied any positions of power on any committees if they continue to side with the Communist Death Democrats.
We are engaged in a Civil War and the only solution is unconditional surrender by the Communist Death Democrats and their permanent removal from all positions of power..

I always had a creepy feeling when watching Green's constant self-promotion.
Now I know why.
Backing McCarthy is like wearing a rainbow shirt - it clearly shows who you are.

I appreciate Gaetz's point (McCarthy is "Turtle junior") however, what does it really matter now? Their are more than enough RINO's in the House and Senate to cooperate with whatever the Dems want to do anyway. Congress is irrelevant. If we want our country, we have to take it back.

Our problem is we have a party within a party and democrats do not. This would have all been moot, if President Trump would have started the America First Party and let the GOPe die on the vine. The reason that party never happened is because the RNC with Ronna McDaniel, McConnell and McCarthy have a death grip on the Republican Party.

This is a dangerous and stupid game. The McCarthy opposition is small but want to run the show. They have no viable alternative so they are fighting something that has no solution for them. The Speaker is 3rd in line to the Presidency. This is not a small role. The Republicans always manage to defeat themselves.

It does not matter if Senate Republicans vote for the Omnibus bill to fund the government through the end of 2023. Without the power of the purse to defund agencies, etc. A Republican barely controlled Congress has no ability to do anything even if McCarthy really wanted to which I doubt. As for MTG - what exactly has she done while in Congress? I give her credit for publicizing as best as possible the J6 political prisoners, but beyond that - what exactly?

Apologies for second comment, but another thought to keep in mind - even if there aren't enough pubbie votes to make McCarthy house speaker on January 3rd, I would think there are plenty of dims who would vote for McCarthy since he is a rino.

Unfortunately, Democrats also get to vote for the Speaker. And we know what they can do with elections.

Two things McCarthy needs to do.
1. Go tell Turtle that there should be no spending bill beyond mid-January. No amnesty, nothing.
2. Go to Gaetz and Biggs and agree to some of their demands. Let them start impeachment proceedings against the DHS Secretary and Biden if they want..
In other words, Get it done. NOW. Otherwise, McCarthy deserves what he gets.

Are Gaetz and his tiny band of bozos secretly aligned with Democrats? Disunity in the Republican caucus is just what the Democrats ordered. The Republicans have really only one year to do what they promised since in 2024 their efforts will be centered on re-election.
Gaetz and company have no alternative for Speaker. He keeps suggesting Jim Jordan who is quite clear he supports McCarthy. Now is not the time for foolishness. Gaetz and his fellow bone heads are screwing their voters.

I support Gaetz 100%. The GOPe will pass the 1.7 billion omnibus spending package that will allow the Democrats to control the 2023 budget with the help of Republican Senators. I get Fox News has left their fair and balanced stance, and endorsed McCarthy. McCarthy has refused to address any of the Freedom Caucus's concerns, so why would they vote for him? The way things are, winning the House has been sabotaged, and the uniparty continues in control with the omnibus spending bill, and now McCarthy shoved down our throats, conservatives threatened and intimidated, if they don't vote for McCarthy, threatened to lose their jobs and doxxing their home addresses, if they don't certify fraudulent elections, threatened with job loss, if they don't take the "vaccine". They are not really for democracy, where you choose how to vote. They intend to make that choice for you.

Funny, the GOP Senators are looking at signing the Omnibus bill simply because they can't trust the House GOP to have their act together.
You can't blowup the GOP, or how the government has been operating for the past 15 years (stopped general order back in 2007 fiscal year) with one election victory.
Democrats didn't get to where they are as a party overnight, it took decades of winning, and shaping the policy they wanted.
Without General Order, you essentially are unable to control the purse, and frankly does not seem like anyone in DC wants to return to it either.
The issue is that Democrat work on expanding government employment which helps them secure votes for future elections, since they can quickly point to how Republicans only want to CUT government, which means those jobs.
Attrition would be better option, as would use of technology to reduce the size and scope of government employment.

So Gaetz is going to hold off all of the investigations single handed. Talk about controlled opposition. The man is (a) blackmailable and (b) preventing what the Democrats most do not want. Hm.

I believe Republicans will same have the same majority number that Pelosi had, so saying our side can't do something because of the numbers is not a good point. We need someone to ram legal laws through the House, shut down the crap, destroy the deep state, and Republicans with the guts to support it all. That's what we don't have.

There is no one else who has achieved what he has done. The Republicans are not proactive. The Dems would love to see our new Congress fighting over something as dumb as this. We have big fish to fry and we are acting like schoolyard kids. Same as throwing PDJT under the bus for tweeting. Gaetz has gone from promising patriot to annoying rabblerouser. Voices much smarter than most of ours are warning that tossing McCarthy at this critical point is a huge mistake. I agree.
Some want to turn to the last page and see what he does. It doesn’t work that way. But the history that has been laid out about him by admiring others looks pretty damned good.
