Winners and losers in the midterms

Original Article

The obvious big winner for the Republicans in last Tuesday's midterm election is Florida's governor, Ron DeSantis. Not only did he hold on to his current job, but the overwhelming margin of his victory and the effectiveness of his statewide coattails have led him to eclipse Donald Trump as the party's true figurehead. I actually suspect that this was the plan all along — that Mr. Trump is really in no way eager to remain the media's punching bag. Now that DeSantis has proven his popularity, the transition to a more politically adept and comparable problem-solver will continue.

Now all we need is for all the other Republican Governors to implement the anti-fraud voting regulations that Florida has enacted.

I think the media will have a hard time getting under DeSantis’ skin. He’s smart, disciplined and doesn’t need the adoration of the media.

Before declaring Nancy Pelosi a loser for "likely" losing her speakership, you might want to take a look at what has been going on the past couple of days. The Democrats are now winning all of the still-contested House races and the GOP lead is shrinking. Who would have thought the Democrats would prevail every single time in close elections that come down to counting mail-in ballots? If the Dems succeed in stealing the House elections, there will be only one loser in 2022 -- freedom.

The real losers are those who supported the spineless Republicans. Who did absolutely nothing to stop/slow down ballot harvesting esp. in battleground states for two years. How stupid can you be??

At this point, we at RedState (and many, many other outlets) have spilled all sorts of digital ink on the state of the national GOP leadership and all the faults and flaws they have. Mitch McConnell’s lack of agenda and the way his Senate Leadership Fund spent money. Rick Scott’s NRSC and their money and strategy problems. Trump’s involvement, choice of candidates, and lack of spending. The quality of candidates overall. It’s all a series of negatives that have absolutely hurt the Republican Party’s chances of taking the Senate and will make their possible majority in the House way more narrow than originally hoped for. And

With the Senate officially back in Democratic Party hands and major governorships lost, Republicans could use some good news. The election has been an unmitigated disaster, with one of the best electoral environments in decades being blown in spectacular fashion. But, while dooming is more than warranted, I can finally bring some merciful good news regarding the House of Representatives. Nothing is official yet, but three major signs on Sunday evening, including a call after a ballot dump in Arizona, appear to make a GOP victory in the House inevitable. The three seats mentioned above were absolutely crucial for Democrat chances of retaining the House.

Lost in the election chaos of the past week was the news that Bidenflation is still chugging along. Inflation came in lower than forecasted for October even though housing, food, and energy prices remained significant contributors to rising consumer prices. Since the 1970s, economists have used the most recently updated Bureau of Labor and Statistics (BLS) data to quantify the country’s economic health. To do so, they add the current U.S. unemployment rate, which ticked up to 3.7%, to October’s better-than-expected rate of U.S. inflation, which now stands at 7.75%. Originally coined as “the discomfort index” by intellectual powerhouse and

I’ve seen a lot of rationales being tossed around for why the Republicans didn’t win more despite what all the polls and data points suggested. I must confess, I’m not particularly satisfied with any of the answers I’ve seen. Yes, could some candidates have been better? No doubt. But Democrats got John Fetterman in and even voted for a dead man. So let’s not even pretend the quality of the candidate or even being alive truly matters. If you voted in Fetterman, it’s all based on wanting power for your party, no matter what. Did Sen Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) take some money away from races

I wrote earlier about the dustup between Sen. Ed Markey (D-WA) and Elon Musk but there are a few more points that I wanted to hit on. Markey blamed Musk for a Washington Post reporter impersonating Markey with a fake account with a blue check mark. Now, I wrote about some of the confusion created by the Twitter Blue subscription, by people getting blue checks by paying for the service. Yes, that created some questions and Musk suspended the service to work out the kinks and reports are that it will likely be coming back next week. While Markey wanted to blame the impersonation on Musk,

As RedState reported, crypto-exchange FTX collapsed after its much-lauded founder, Sam Bankman-Fried, appeared to make improper transfers of customer money. Somewhere between $1-2 billion of that amount has now gone missing and Bankman-Fried also has disappeared. What makes this so interesting, though, isn’t just that a lot of really wealthy people got scammed. It’s that Bankman-Fried also happens to be one of the top donors to the Democratic Party. In fact, outside of George Soros, no one has done more to bankroll Democrat efforts since the 2020 election. Joe Biden alone received a whopping $5.2 million.

On election night, election analysts examine all the available vote data in real time, adjusting the probabilities for each House race accordingly. He’s been all over the place when asked about running for re-election, with his resolve seeming to harden over the summer leading up to the 2022 election. After Republicans unexpectedly got shellacked, the assumption then moved to it being assured. Why wouldn’t Biden run again? He just dodged

PHILADELPHIA—Call it “the White Wave.” A flood of white envelopes containing mail-in ballots lofted Democrat candidates to victories in several key Nov. 8 races. Case in point: Democrat John Fetterman will occupy Pennsylvania’s coveted U.S. Senate seat instead of Republican Dr. Mehmet Oz. In that race—and several others—mail-in ballots acted as a breaker against the “Red Wave” of wins that Republican leaders had hoped would wash across the nation at a time when Congress and the White House are both Democrat-controlled.
