BROOKLINE, Mass. — When it was over, he said he had “no words.’’ Matthew Fitzpatrick had just won the 122nd U.S. Open at The Country Club, a particularly special place for him, and it felt like 2013 all over again for the 27-year-old Englishman who won the U.S. Amateur that year on these very historic grounds. Fitzpatrick not only was a first-time major champion, but this was his first win in America as a professional, something that had become somewhat of a weighty necklace he was tired of wearing. “It’s what you dream about as a kid,’’ he said. “It’s obviously been a big monkey on my back trying to win over here

Agreed #1, and to expand everyone in the top 10 is likable. Excellent showcase brought to you by the USGA. My only complaint was the bonehead ruling on JT, he should have gotten relief from the sprinkler head.

Matt's second shot on 18 out of that bunker. You gotta be kidding me. And I thought that Will's putt on 18 was in. So did everyone else. Great Open all around. Except for Phil.

Fitzpatrick looked like the guy to beat Saturday. I wasn't so sure as he left putt after putt just short. Normally a bad sign but Fitz was remarkably consistent with those putts and left little pressure to pick up the pars. Seventeen greens in regulation. I watched David Graham win the '81 US Open hitting 17 greens (and one fringe) but Matt was even more impressive all week. Scotty, Zalatoris and others played great but all know why they didn't win. Fitzpatrick displayed amazing control as he played within himself, more so than any of them. And of course you gotta get lucky too. Matt flamed a drive far enough right to get a clean lie on 17, leading to a bird. Will caught the second cut of rough by a few feet on the same hole, leading to bogey.

I watched the Open, and I always, sometimes irrationally, root for Americans only. Therefore, I had mixed feelings with the alien winning. At the same time,. I was pleased that Fragile Rory folded like a cheap suitcase, or a wilted Irish rose, and that Sergio Garcia missed the cut. My one complaint had to do with the announcers. STOP USING PRONOUNS, FOR GOD'S SAKE! Tell us what the scene is, in front of you, you doofuses! The cameras are jumping in different directions, covering different players, and the announcers are using he and him. Use proper names; And stop with the reminiscing all the time. What happened to you with your sand trap shot on the 14th hole in 1979 is of no interest to me. The announcers did their best to keep Fragile Rory in the game, to the point that it was laughable. He should, consider spending a year on the Korn Ferry circuit. (I know he won last week, but I'm not rational when viewing golf.)

Following a slew of violent attacks on pro-life pregnancy centers, New York Governor Kathy Hochul (D) is inexplicably amping up the rhetoric against pro-lifers, calling them “neanderthals.” Hochul on Monday signed legislation to boost abortion “rights” and “empower” abortion providers in the Empire State. “This is the United States of America, where freedom and liberty are supposed to mean something,” the Democrat said. “It’s the rock upon which we were founded. It is supposed to mean something. Except in the eyes of some neanderthals who say, women are not entitled to those rights.”

Roundly rebuking his neo-liberal globalist political philosophy, the French public has refused to grant President Emmanuel Macron a parliamentary majority as Marine Le Pen’s populists on the right and an ecological alliance on the left surged at the ballot box to strip the once self-described ‘Jupitarean’ leader of his ability to govern France firmly. Just under two months after securing a second term as President of France, Emmanuel Macron and his Ensemble! coalition have suffered a disastrous result in the final round of voting in the parliamentary elections on Sunday, securing just 245 seats, far short of the 289 necessary to maintain a governing majority and

President Joe Biden has repeatedly touted the country’s “job recovery” since he took office, even declaring earlier this week that his administration’s efforts “created the greatest job recovery in American history.” Economists and fact checkers, however, are unconvinced that Biden played much of a role in the numbers. The U.S. plummeted into a recession in March 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, with a swiftness not seen since the Great Depression, the Congressional Research Service later found. Since then, restrictions imposed as a result of the pandemic have continued to loosen — allowing Americans to head back to jobs they essentially already have.

Republicans in Texas formally rejected President Joe Biden's election in 2020 as illegitimate and voted in a state-wide convention that wrapped up this weekend on a party platform that calls homosexuality an 'abnormal lifestyle choice.' The convention was held at the George R. Brown Convention Center from Thursday until Saturday, and the vote to reject Biden's election win was a verbal one. That resolution said: 'We believe that the 2020 election violated Article 1 and 2 of the US Constitution, that various secretaries of state illegally circumvented their state legislatures in conducting their elections in multiple ways, including by allowing ballots to be received after November 3 2020.'

Gunfire erupted on a street corner as crowds began to disperse from the “advocacy” festival called Moechella — which officers had shut down moments earlier over dangerous conditions. The event was advertised as a peaceful demonstration at 14th and U Street celebrating Juneteenth, but police described a chaotic scene where several illegal guns were recovered over the course of two-and-a-half hours.
