After receiving an external correction request, USA TODAY audited the reporting work of Gabriela Miranda. The audit revealed that some individuals quoted were not affiliated with the organizations claimed and appeared to be fabricated. The existence of other individuals quoted could not be independently verified. In addition, some stories included quotes that should have been credited to others.
As a result, USA TODAY removed 23 articles from its website and other platforms for not meeting our editorial standards. The headlines of the articles are listed below. Miranda has resigned as a reporter for USA TODAY and the USA TODAY Network.

Senate negotiations over “gun control” legislation broke down abruptly on Thursday after Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) walked out. The bill was expected to pass quickly, and an initial framework seemed to be broadly supported by both Republicans and Democrats.
But as is the way of Washington, the devil is in the details, and who could have possibly guessed that Democrats would attempt to take a few more bites of the apple on the way?
Reuters has the report.
The lead Republican negotiator in U.S. Senate negotiations toward a bipartisan gun safety bill walked out of the talks on Thursday, dimming the likelihood of a vote on the legislation before senators leave

A Greenfield, Massachusetts, mother and her 12-year-old child reportedly obtained a temporary harassment prevention order against The Flash star Ezra Miller on Wednesday, alleging that the actor had intimidated their family by brandishing a firearm during an argument and acted inappropriately toward the child, who identifies as nonbinary.
The protection order, reviewed by the Daily Beast, was signed by a judge who spoke with the 12-year-old accuser — whose identity remains anonymous — their mother, and a neighbor who witnessed the alleged incident involving Miller, who also identifies as nonbinary.
On February 2, the three were with Miller at the neighbor’s home in Greenfield when tensions started rising.

A coalition of pro-life organizations sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland Thursday demanding action to address the recent wave of pro-abortion terrorism and intimidation.
In a letter organized by the non-profit CatholicVote, 25 pro-life leaders, mostly think tank presidents, called the Justice Department’s attention to the many attacks on pregnancy centers, churches, and even Supreme Court justices that have occurred since the Dobbs majority opinion leak last month.
“The relative silence from the Administration endangers Americans even more,” the letter read. “One extremist group is advocating for violence in response to the final Supreme Court decision on Dobbs,” the group said, invoking a recent statement from rogue pro-abortion militants

Republican attorneys general in 26 states have called on the Biden administration to drop its LGBTQ requirements for federal school lunch funding, a policy that is accused of using “hungry children as a human shield.”
The letter urged President Biden to withdraw the Agriculture Department’s May 5 memorandum, which said that state agencies and schools participating in federal food assistance programs must update their policies to ban discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
The guidance raised fears that the administration would cut off Food and Nutrition Act funding to schools that prohibit transgender girls from using girls’ restrooms and participating in girls’ sports.

Elon Musk addressed Twitter employees on Thursday ahead of his $44 billion acquisition of the company.
The Tesla and SpaceX CEO agreed to buy the company earlier this year, but has since expressed what seems to be hesitation about the deal, alleging that Twitter has not accurately disclosed the number of fake or spam accounts on the service.
Here are some of the answers to employee questions, according to a person watching a video call where Musk spoke. Meeting has ended and employees are worried about layoffs
The all-hands meeting concluded around 1 p.m. Eastern Time.
According to a source, the majority of the reactions on Twitter's Slack messaging board were negative in nature.

Leaders of the Jan. 6 select committee say the time has come to interview Virginia “Ginni” Thomas, the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, about her connections to Donald Trump’s attempts to overturn the election.
Panel Chair Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) and Vice Chair Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) agreed Thursday that the committee needed to delve into Thomas’ role. Thompson’s comments and Cheney’s agreement — confirmed to POLITICO by an aide — coincided with news reports suggesting Thomas had been in touch with at least one key architect of Trump’s bid to cling to power: Attorney John Eastman.

Stocks tumbled around the globe as recession fears resurfaced, with the Federal Reserve struggling to get on top of inflation that’s proved more persistent and widespread than officials anticipated. The rally that followed the Fed’s decision fizzled out, with the S&P 500 down 3%, on pace for its lowest since December 2020. Megacaps Apple Inc. and Tesla Inc. sank at least 3.4%. Kroger Co. plunged after the supermarket company said higher costs hurt margins. Revlon Inc. filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy as the supply-chain crunch proved the tipping point for the debt-laden cosmetics giant.

The U.S. stock market rout that has put U.S. equities in a bear market isn't just reducing the net worth of billionaires like Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos. It's also taking a toll on Americans' retirement savings, wiping out trillions of dollars in value.
The selloff has erased nearly $3 trillion from U.S. retirement accounts, according to Alicia Munnell, director of the Center for Retirement Research at Boston College. By her calculations, 401(k) plan participants have lost about $1.4 trillion from their accounts since the end of 2021. People with IRAs — most of which are 401(k) rollovers — have lost $2 trillion this

Amidst record prices, the White House has been desperately searching for a way to bring down costs without actually having to change its policy direction. That means lots of whining about supposed “price gouging” and threatening oil companies. On Tuesday, the threats escalated to the use of emergency powers, specifically the Defense Production Act, to force oil companies to refine more gasoline.
President Biden will warn CEOs of the nation’s largest oil companies on Wednesday that he’s considering invoking emergency powers to boost U.S. refinery output, according to a letter obtained by Axios.
Why it matters: Biden’s direct engagement with the oil giants is part of an ongoing White House effort

Lightyear star Chris Evans called critics of the movie’s gay kiss “idiots,” adding, “those people” are going to “die off like dinosaurs.” The Disney-Pixar animated children’s movie has been banned in Middle Eastern countries, such as Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), over a scene featuring a kiss between two female characters.
“The real truth is those people are idiots,” Evans told Reuters. “There’s always going to be people who are afraid and unaware and trying to hold on to what was before. But those people die off like dinosaurs.” “I think the goal is to pay them no mind, march forward and embrace the growth that makes us human,” the actor added.

On Wednesday’s broadcast of the Fox News Channel’s “Hannity,” Rep.-Elect Mayra Flores (R-TX) argued Democrats have “walked away from the Hispanic community. They’ve gone so far left, and they don’t represent our values.” And “completely abandoned us and taken us for granted. They feel entitled to our vote. And they feel they don’t really have to work for it.”
Flores stated, “I feel like the Democrat Party has walked away from the Hispanic community. They’ve gone so far left, and they don’t represent our values. People always ask me, Mayra, how can you be a Republican [when] you were born in Mexico? And that’s — that clearly shows me
