Lawmakers stepped up pressure on President Biden to help get fighter jets to Ukraine after President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s powerful appeal to Congress on Wednesday for more U.S. military support.
Democrats and Republicans pushed Mr. Biden to stop hesitating on a deal to transfer Polish MiG fighters to Ukraine, which Mr. Biden warns would escalate the war and tempt Russian President Vladimir Putin to spark World War III. Sen. Richard Blumenthal, Connecticut Democrat, said the U.S. needed to send aircraft and other military hardware to give Ukraine a fighting chance.(Snip)Sen. Ted Cruz, a Texas Republican and a member of the Foreign Relations Committee, said: “Right now the Biden administration

Dilapidated 40-year-old MIG's aren't going to do anything but get Ukrainian pilots killed.
The Russians built those planes. They know what their weaknesses are. They have much newer jet fighters that will tear these old MIG's to shreds.

Congress critters being pressured by their donor class…again. Follow the money.
Its easy to posture with a seemingly innocuous plea for the ‘David vs Goliath’ narrative and gambit by sending equipment by proxy (and other people’s money). But it’s hard to justify from an operational level (adaptability, spare parts, maintenance, training and effective combat employment) and a the geo-political level of allowing ourselves (or forcing proxies) to become co-belligerents in a war that can quickly escalate.
August 1914, anyone?

Help us Jobby Won! You've destroyed the economy, and public confidence and optimism. The only thing that could save us Dems from massive extermination at the polls is a nice little war. Or a big one; whatever.

Hey, if Connecticuts fighting Senator, the other Vietnam hero, Da Nang Dick Blumenthal thinks it's the fighting mans thing to do, there should be no hesitation! But they might want to check with the purple heart hero of Vienam, fighting JfnKerry, just to be sure.

No functioning airport in Ukraine means the planes will have to be stationed in Poland or another NATO country. This means Russia will attack the Nato country to destroy the planes and WWIII officially begins. Well thought out plan.

Old MiGs are better than no MiGs. If I was fighting for my homeland, in spite of the corruption wrought by "elected"democrats, and someone offered me a Cessna 150 with a hundred gallons of avgas, I'd take it, if only to drop rocks on enemy troops. If I was offered a pot of boiling grease to pour on the heads on my enemies, I'd take it and at least try to use it as it was used, often effectively, a thousand years ago. For the first time in six decades and some change, I'm no longer sure that 1 out of every 5 Americans would stick around and fight for our country.

No. Ukraine has been defeated. They should accept not joining NATO and end it.

#11, do you seriously think that you would last 2 seconds over Russian troops in either an old MIG or a Cessna before you would be blown out of the sky? The Russians have far superior fighter jets, as well as surface to air missiles.
Dying fighting for your country is one thing (like the Ukrainian who blew up the bridge early on to keep the Russian tanks from crossing). Intentionally committing suicide with no hope of doing any damage to the enemy (as an empty gesture for the "mother land") is just plain stupid and useless!!!

Hot garbage. Our wealthy, crooked internationalist congresspersons will do anything for a buck, then decamp to parts unknown when the bear strikes back. "Avoid foreign entanglements," except when there's money to be made?
