According to the district, surveillance video from the cafeteria was included in evidence from their investigation. The staff members were immediately put on administrative leave, the district says. A lawsuit filed by the child’s parent alleges that on Nov. 21, the student told the school’s principal she “did not like the waffles” she was eating and “asked for a different meal.” The lawsuitCORRECTIONS*

Why is the mother in the article identified a s a "parent." Is it illegal to call her a mother?

More evidence that government run schools are completely out of control with very stupid people running them. They seem to think they are above accountability for how they treat our children. The more parents sue, like this one did, the more fear they will have about their behavior.

If you read the article, the girl was being a brat who threw her waffles into the can. The staffer retrieved it and made her finish it. I have seen a lot of food waste in schools and believe me, I’d be tempted to do the same.
My mother taught us kids not to waste our food. If we didn’t eat our breakfast, it was lunch. If we didn’t eat then, it became dinner. By then we’d be too hungry not to eat. That was when we were real little. We learned quick.

Re: #4 - One's upbringing doesn't excuse child abuse in the here and now. Disposing unwanted food in a trash can does not a brat make.

I was raised in the era of, eat what's on your plate or sit there until you do. I can't imagine being a teacher in this day and age, babysitting spoiled children raised by the spoiled generation before them.

#4, there is no excuse for a school trying to make a child eat, let alone eat something out of a garbage can.If this child didn't want to eat her waffles, so be it. She acted properly in throwing them in the garbage.I can only speak from my own experience but there are teachers and staff members who bully and insult children they don't like.

Administrative leave? What does it take to get these teachers or school workers fired? This is absolutely cruel.

The kid sounds like a brat, but they should not have forced her to eat the waffles after they were thrown in the trash. They should have told her that was all there was for lunch and let it be her decision to eat or not to eat.

Waffles? Of course! Schools feed breakfast, lunch, send dinner and weekend food home in a backpack. Deduct it from the food stamps the parents get? Of course not! They need those for soda, to be traded out for pennies on a dollar for cash, to be used for drugs and alcohol. After all, the government is the real parents in the New America, (real, scary, abusive, heartless and authoritarian) parents... you know, like all the communist authoritarian regimes that came before it.

I agree with #4. The kids was demanding something other than what the cafeteria was serving. She was not in a restaurant. And I'd be willing to bet she is getting free breakfast.
