MINNEAPOLIS—As activists mobilized this summer to ask Minneapolis voters to replace their police department, one of the first prominent Democrats to slam the plan was a moderate congresswoman who doesn’t even live in the city.Angie Craig declared it “shortsighted, misguided and likely to harm the very communities that it seeks to protect.” She warned that it could push out the city’s popular Black police chief.Craig’s district covers a suburban-to-rural and politically divided region south of the city, but her willingness to jump into the fight next door highlights the political threat that Democrats like Craig see in the proposal. As a city that has become synonymous with police abuse wrestles

The notion that getting rid of police will improve public safety is like thinking that shooting Smokey The Bear will prevent forest fires.
‘Progressives” are intellectual troglodytes.

Political peril? That's all they are worried about? What about public safety, about protecting citizens from thieves and thugs. Democrats should think about that.

At the end of the article one of the "defund" movement's flacks expects the movement to "domino" into other (blue) cities. Anti-American James Bond villain in the flesh George Soros, of course, is deeply involved in getting rid of police departments and replacing them with Department(s) of Public Safety. I'm sure violent criminals, operating with near immunity from prosecution around Minneapolis, are scared straight.
Of course, if the above statement is wrong, there might soon be a lot of Paul Kerseys in these lawless cities that have already turned into shooting galleries even with fully staffed police departments. These hopelessly blue cities are emptying out. That's what should happen.

Defunding city police would bee a boon for the nearby ex-urbs and suburbs. The city would become a honeypot for every druggy, rapist, carjacker, thief, gang-banger and murderer and leave the rest of us alone.

I hope that they do get rid of the Minne-Mogadishu PD. The fools in charge, and the fools who elected them need a "training class" in the hell that will descend upon them if they do this.
The average person tends to assume that crime is somewhere else and someone else's problem, and not appreciate that police really are the thin blue line keeping back the violent people.

Angie Craig was one of those CD elections that probably went Rep, but cheaters gave it to her. I'm sure that she and her wife have been celebrating ever since. Once again her CD is considered vulnerable - -so that's why she's speaking out.

Do not allow the Democrats to brush this issue aside, make it a key point in the upcoming 2022 elections.
None of them spoke out against the demands to defund the police, after all.
NONE.
They thought it was a winning strategy, and they clung to it, let it remain.

The Minneapolis Convention and Visitors Bureau is going to be really challenged to bring visitors and conventions to their socialist utopia. It used to be a nice place for a convention, but I doubt if any entity would even give it consideration today.

How about getting rid of the black criminals instead of the black chief?

Ah yes, Minneapolis..I had to go there for two weeks a long time ago for a union work stoppage...I really liked down town..the sky walks were amazing, going into every large downtown building, with small shops located there...didn't have to go outside in the bad weather...a really nice place...now, not so much...wouldn't go back on a bad bet...

It's either you accept an effective police force or experience the highest murder rate you have seen in decades. Your choice - try to make a good one this time.
