The U.S. job market saw hiring slow to 235,000 jobs in August, a sharp drop off after two strong months with the Delta variant of the coronavirus to blame. The unemployment rate dropped to 5.2%, the Labor Department reported Friday, but the predictions for the job market failed to meet expectations by a significant margin. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones had been looking for 720,000 new hires. President Joe Biden will address the job numbers in a speech at the White House on Friday before he heads to New Orleans to view the damage from Hurricane Ida.

Sure! Let's blame the Delta variant as opposed to paying people not to work!

Aren't they supposed to use the word "unexpectedly" as in "unexpectedly low" in this article?

FTA 'The August job number is the lowest since January..." Looks like Bidenomics is just kicking in and the road ahead is paved with more unemployment handouts.

Biden always can jog out and blame Trump. The leftist and socialist Democrats will believe Biden while ignoring all the “free” government money that Biden and the Democrats are handing out to keep huge numbers of American workers home.

But don’t even think of distributing Ivermectin, as the state of Delhi did, to end the virus, stop the deaths and get people back to work. America is just too stupid for that.

Considering here in Iowa you can drive through any town and see "now hiring" signs, I don't think covid is the issue. Laziness is. The college students are back here locally and NOT going and getting jobs as they used to.

Factor in the 120,000 Known/official illegal immigrants allowed in during the month, and the similar(if not larger) numbers of those NOT caught and processed? We had net ZERO "new Jobs"

How can Department of Labor get their prediction so "unexpectantly" wrong? Only off by 500,000 jobs. Pretty soon their predictions will be off by over a million jobs. Now that would really be "unexpectantly" bad predicting.

The Delta variant, eh? Not buying it. Correlation does not equal causation. Just because two things happen at the same time doesn’t mean one is causes the other to occur.

So now we know the plan. A new “mutation” will be found and be used to explain both why the vaccine isn’t working, and why we are “just that close to a complete economic recovery”.

The old BECAUSE OF COVID excuse just does not cut it anymore. Coivd is blamed for everything from poor jobs reports to the mail being late. Why won't the media just come out and just admit it: people are getting lazier and lazier with all of the government hand outs over the past 18 months. No rent, unconditional never ending unemployment, extra food stamps, free health care, free money just for having kids. Why work? Now "labor experts" are claiming the worker shortage is not problem of people not wanting to work. It is a problem of people not wanting to work for the wages and benefits that employers are willing to pay. The "experts" claim that employers are being greedy and keeping all of the money for themselves and that all of the money should go to the workers. That would be great if they could afford that, but most can't. To pay what so called labor experts say that people are now demanding (thanks to expectations promoted by the government), many employers would have to raise prices too high to remain in business. These are all jobs that people had no problem taking before the pandemic. Seems that Covid was used to promote a lot of Social engineering over the past 18 months with workers expectations from employers.
