The Education Department is investigating whether five states are violating the rights of students with disabilities by barring schools from requiring that masks be worn indoors. The move threatens the states with the possible loss of federal education funding. The department’s civil rights office said Monday it told the education departments of the five states—Iowa, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee and Utah—that their prohibitions are keeping schools from taking the steps they think are needed to protect students from COVID-19.(Snip)The letter marks a sharp escalation in the Biden administration’s battle with Republican-led states that say wearing masks should be a personal choice.

Also this chestnut; there once was a time when this nation had limited government under local control. "The American people, North and South, went into the [civil] war as citizens of their respective states, they came out as subjects, and what they thus lost they have never got back."

The Republican party platform also upholds the "principle of subsidiarity," meaning matters are dealt with at the lowest level possible. Not so with the Demoncrat party, which prefers that things are dealt with at the highest level possible, meaning the federal government. Soon we will find ourselves being controlled by the dictates of the United Nations.

Amen times ten, OP. My Republicans have used all things Department of Education as a campaign talking point against dumbocrats forever. They never ever had any intention of getting rid of that bloated corrupt tentacle of the worst left wing teacher unions and organizations. I hope many incumbent Senators and Congresscritters are now realizing they bear a heavy responsibility for what government schools are doing!!

Most people know that masks do nothing. Let's put all these lies behind us and get on with living a normal life. Have no idea what damage to the children will come from this lockdown. And all for political reasons.

Bans on mask requirements don't preclude anyone from wearing a mask if they so desire.

Thanks #1. As a bitter, angry Soldier, I come here for the wisdom that many posters provide. Some may not like what I say, but having lived in DC and worked closely with executives (as administrative assistant), I know enough to feel as if I know too much. Ignorance is truly bliss, which is why so many feel as if we’re in Hell. I now understand why the elites were massacred by Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge following America’s retreat from Vietnam. If you’re going to reboot a nation, that’s the place to start. Not sorry and am stockpiling ammo (not kidding). Have enough 5.56, 7.62 and 9mm to supply a platoon for several weeks.

Studies have shown ventilation gives better protection than masks. Open the windows for Christ’s sake.

I would prefer to let DC have all their money back, and states run themselves.

The Feds should have ZERO influence over state education policies. Let them take the money, state's shouldn't take federal money for EXACTLY this reason. Fed money ALWAYS has strings, often hawsers, attached.

What business does the central government have in controlling the local schoolhouse? Selections from the stated goals of the Communist party in the USA, 1963.
17. Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers' associations. Put the party line in textbooks.
18. Gain control of all student newspapers.
19. Use student riots to foment public protests against programs or organizations which are under Communist attack.

Not having a mask requirement does not stop one from wearing a mask if they want to. Also, how does a mask requirement make education better? If wearing a mask will make children smarter and learn better, I am all for it. However, the opposite is true. Even in places with masks mandates and vaccinated people, positive Covid test rates are increasing. Apparently the masks and vaccines have little effect.

How does this violate the rights of students with disabilities? It is a ban against the MANDATE. It isn't a ban on masks. If someone wants to wear a mask they can. If anything, mandating masks violates the rights of students with disabilities--especially those with breathing issues. These manipulators will say anything to force their tyranny upon us. We are talking about a virus with a 98+% survival rate. Geez...

Murdering unborn babies is a personal choice, but wearing masks is a social obligation meant to show that we Trust the Science. And thanks to the Republicans failing to shut down the Department of Education (thanks for nothing Betsy Voss), schools are fully controlled by the Politburo.
