Republicans on the House Oversight Committee demanded an investigation Wednesday into allegations that Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani embezzled millions of U.S. taxpayer funds before fleeing the embattled country. Mr. Ghani hastily escaped the country last week just hours before the capital, Kabul, fell to the Taliban. He later turned up in the United Arab Emirates, which accepted him on humanitarian grounds. Shortly after his departure, a Russian embassy spokesperson told the media that Mr. Ghani tried to fit as much money as possible in a helicopter but left some of the cash on the tarmac because there wasn’t enough room. Some of the cash reportedly was stuffed

Probe? Really . . . we're tired of "probes" and investigations that lead to no where. So he got a lot of our bucks . . . what are we going to do about it? Those accountable will have no fear of any consequences, mainly due to the ineptness of the Republicans. We've had the Mueller investigation, we've had Hillary's e-mail scandal investigation, we've had the FBI, the CIA, and the myth of Durham investigations. I can go on forever! . . . All in all, so what? Nothing, or nobody has been held accountable. The Republican lip service is tiresome!

What claims? He hauled off 4 cars, too, and suitcases of money. How much cargo space did four friggin' vehicles take up that could have been used to evac American citizens?
You punks in Congress aren't going to do ANYTHING, and we know it.

#2, a Brown University study pegged the cost of the Afghanistan war at $2.26 trillion, which amounts to some 10% of the outstanding US debt that cannot possibly be repaid other than through inflation. The important thing is that George W. Bush got to be "a wartime president," money was spent, generals became heroes from their office chairs, and the arms dealers made a killing. What fun they had being unable to defeat a ragtag band of tribal people!

Republicans have to stamp their feet and beg their Democrat overlords for everything. It is a pathetic picture.

There is no way he could have put that much cash on a helicopter by himself. Who helped him? Our military? He is no better than all Communist dictators; they stuff their own pockets with American dollars and run. What ever happened to the billions of dollars we sent to Haiti and Venezuela? The Democrats act like money grows on trees and the trees belong to them while many of our own American citizens are struggling to pay bills.

$2 TRILLION!!!!....over 20 years, Dems have voted to spend three times that much in the last 2 weeks.
As far as the money& cars Ghani fled with...we do not know yet what he plans to do with that money, it may go to afghan relief for refugees or something(I am curious as to what the cars were) He was/is already a wealthy man, former project director at both the UN and world bank...in 2006 he was on the short list to replace Koffi Annon as UN Sec. General.
, and the Helos/transport planes he used to bug out were ones the US already GAVE to afghanistan, not US planes. They were/are worth many more $millions and are NOT now in Taliban hands, at least 40 other Helos and fixed wing aircraft were flown out to Tajik/Uzbek airfields. Though one crashed when it's Uzbec "escort" and the Afghan plane collided, both crashed, both crews ejected.

NOW we discover official corruption and profiteering in Kabul? In the land of rug merchants, kebob shop chieftains and opium growers and wholesalers, not to mention a feckless, cowardly "security force"?
Anyone doubt the same would happen in Washington if the chips were ever down?

There they go again, the stern-faced Republicans demand some answers! Hundreds of people should be in Gitmo for this 20-year debacle, including the Republicans who got us in there to begin with, but Good Americans are OK knowing that mistakes were made, and it's time to move on.
