The White House dove into damage control this week after reports of dysfunction and infighting in Vice President Kamala Harris' office, with the administration trying to stop a drama-filled narrative from taking hold, according to five people who spoke to CNN about the dynamics within Harris' office. Two people close to Harris' team said some individuals inside the vice president's office are frustrated with what they see as a dysfunctional operation that has been at times waylaid by internal conflict. Some of that ire is directed squarely at Harris' chief of staff, Tina Flournoy, those people said. Another source close

Anyone hoping Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer would retire at the onset of the summer recess received a discouraging sign on Friday. The high court confirmed Breyer, who is the oldest justice on the bench at the age of 82, hired four clerks for the fall term, according to a report by Bloomberg. The news is sure to frustrate Left-leaning court advocates who have increasingly pressed for Breyer to step down after the sudden death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg last year gave former President Donald Trump the chance to cement a conservative majority on the court with the appointment

An imported woke leftist culture is 'racialising' France, causing splits in society and holding back ethnic minorities, President Emmanuel Macron has claimed. Macron said the political left's insistence on defining their countrymen by their ethnicity and depicting them as victims is causing rifts, and blamed social science ideas that have come from the United States. (Snip) He also pointed blame at feminists and black rights activists for seeking to define people according to their gender and their skin colour, arguing that such views cause rifts in French society and limit social mobility among ethnic minorities. Disney World has made another change at its Orlando, Florida, theme park as part of the company's initiative to become more inclusive. Employees were invited to a "cast member" preview of the "Happily Ever After" fireworks show at Magic Kingdom on Wednesday. The event was the first fireworks showing hosted at Disney World since the nightly shows were halted at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. While the fireworks show seemingly remains unchanged, the preshow recording is now different. As heard in videos shared by employees, Disney World has replaced the "Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls" greeting with one

Dozens of looters moved into Afghanistan's Bagram Airfield just hours after U.S. troops vacated the airfield after a nearly 20-year occupation. The district administrator for the town of Bagram, Darwaish Raufi, told the Associated Press that since the troops' departure was not coordinated with local officials, the airfield's gates were not secured. This allowed looters to unlawfully enter before Afghan forces could secure the airfield. "Unfortunately the Americans left without any coordination with Bagram district officials or the governor's office," Raufi said. "They were stopped and some have been arrested and the rest have been cleared from the base," Raufi

China appears to be building more than 100 new missile silos in the desert, according to an analysis of satellite imagery first reported by the Washington Post Wednesday. Analyzing satellite images from Planet Labs, Jeffrey Lewis and Decker Eveleth, researchers at the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies, identified 119 apparent intercontinental ballistic missile silos under construction near Yumen in Gansu province. The researchers also identified the construction of a possible control center. The report follows one published in February from Federation of American Scientists researcher Hans Kristensen, who observed that China was

NEW YORK - U.S. President Joe Biden has seen an erosion in support since April, mainly from fellow Democrats, as his administration wrestles with Congress to make good on campaign promises and more Americans worry about an uneven economic recovery, Reuters/Ipsos polling shows. (Snip) However, a growing number of Americans disapprove of Biden's leadership on the economy, gun violence and taxation, with the biggest decline coming within Biden's Democratic Party, especially those under the age of 40, non-white Democrats or those who do not have a college degree. The economy has replaced healthcare and disease as a top concern, with

IKEA Canada has unveiled a series of colorful couches inspired by different Pride flags, including those representing the transgender, nonbinary and asexual communities. Created to mark Pride Month, the 10 "Love Seats" were created by four LGBTQ designers and feature everything from gigantic ruffles to colorful patters and faux flowers. The Swedish retailer said in a press release that it hopes the campaign will honor "the richness and diversity of the 2SLGBTQ+ community," using an expanded acronym that encompasses those identifying as two-spirit, an Indigenous American term for those with both a male and female spirits. New York City residents were asked on Wednesday to limit their electricity usage to avoid power outages during the blistering heat wave. "We're now experiencing a heat emergency, and we need people to take immediate action," Mayor Bill de Blasio said. "Our electric system is dealing with real strains right now because of the severity of heat that we are experiencing today." De Blasio continued, "We have a real challenge on our hands. So here's the message to all New Yorkers: immediately reduce the use of electricity in your home or in your business. This is very serious stuff.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — The British and American embassies in the United Arab Emirates are facing backlash online and among locals for raising the rainbow pride flag, which honors LGBTQ communities, along with their own national flags to celebrate Pride Month. This is the first time any diplomatic mission has flown a gay pride flag in the religiously conservative Arab Gulf, and it is causing controversy in a country where same-sex relationships are illegal. “June is #PrideMonth and around the world we celebrate the equality and visibility of #LGBT+ people,” the U.K. mission to the UAE posted on Twitter

At least someone’s enjoying the NYC mayoral vote disaster. Former President Trump Wednesday gleefully compared the city Board of Election’s error-plagued vote count with his own 2020 election defeat. “Just like in the 2020 Presidential Election, it was announced overnight in New York City that vast irregularities and mistakes were made,” Trump wrote in an email message. “The fact is, based on what has happened, nobody will ever know who really won.” Trump pounced on the bizarre addition of more than 100,000 “test votes” into the official count, claiming the snafu means the only fair thing to do is to

NEW YORK — The Democratic primary for mayor of New York City was thrown into a state of confusion Tuesday when elections officials abruptly retracted their latest report on the vote count. As evening fell, New York City's Board of Election withdrew data it had released earlier purporting to be a first round of results from the city's new ranked choice voting system. (Snip) Then, without any further explanation, the board withdrew the vote data entirely and replaced it with a message saying results would be updated Wednesday. The confusion was a black mark on New York City's first major foray
