Maybe those poor Gates kids are getting more than $10 million after all. Divorce experts say there’s a clue in Melinda Gates’ blockbuster divorce filing that she’s angling to change her three children’s inheritance — after her estranged husband, Bill Gates, has repeatedly said he’s leaving them a mere $10 million apiece. Melinda has taken the highly unusual step — according to experts — of naming top trust and estate lawyers as her representatives in her divorce filing, along with the customary matrimonial legal eagles.

Hey, I'm not taking up for poor ol' Bill, but I'd say mommy can leave the little darlings as much as she wants out of her ginormous cut.

Greed, feminism, adultery, selfishness, and a total lack of faith in God -- gee, I can't imagine why they are ending up in what will be a very messy and nasty divorce.
Oh wait, yes I can: Greed, feminism, adultery, selfishness, and a total lack of faith in God.
I have never been able to stand Bill Gates. But I think he didn't even take it far enough with his kids. They should get $0 for a "guaranteed" inheritance. They should have to work for everything they get in this life. Then, if he sees that they have become good and responsible adults, he can leave them what he wants in an inheritance. Otherwise, he is going to have spoiled -- and probably drug addicted -- useless adults just waiting for him to die to waste his money as fast as they can. See Hunter biden for a perfect example...

This would be another way to stick it to Bill.
I'm sure she'll be doing other things to stick it to him also.

Well who else does he want to leave his money to? I don't understand how enormously wealthy people brag they aren't leaving their kids anything. Why not?

How are the kids going to make it on only $10mil each ? ; that is double what a working stiff makes at $100K per year for 50 years. What a crock of nonsense. This garbage belongs at the supermarket checkout. With that amount of money, they would never have to work if they did not wish to. A 2% CD earns $200K annually.

What's Gates net worth, about 70 billion? While the world doesn't need any more spoiled rich kids, leaving ten million to each kid does seem like a stab in the back. If this is Gate's idea of not spoiling the kids, and making them go get a job, 10 million each isn't going to do it. Leave them ten bucks. That will instill a work ethic in them, but #1 is right. Mom is in line to get probably 30 to 40 billion. She can take care of the little darlings with that amount of cash.

Mom can do what she wants with her cut of Bill's money. Bill can do what he wants with his cut of his money (but $10 million does seem a little skimpy). People need to remember, it is the parents money, not the kids. While I would like to leave all of my money to my kids, they will only get it if I feel they will be responsible with it and deserve it.

Trump's father *loaned* him $1M to get started in business, which he turned into a reported $4B through his own efforts. Yeah, $1M is a good head start but if he had been a spoiled rich kid, sat on his butt and spent it over time, his would have had a much less opulent life style, to say the least. He built his fortune through hard work. In today's much inflated dollars, $10m probably isn't far from Trump's stake in value.
By giving his kids $10m instead of $10B, he's saying if you want to be worth billions, you're going to have to work for it. So saddle up, kids.

Totally on Melinda's side. Over the years having a job where I interacted with some employees, I heard many stories. He has treated some just horribly in front of their peers. I'm not at all a fan. Doing good works overseas is great, but I think he should look at fixing our homeless problems first, and Seattle certainly has a problem. And working on drug prices for our elderly would be helpful. Get every penny you can Melinda. For kids who have lived in a family with billions, $10million is a cheap pittance. I'd expect that from Bill, but now they will have Melinda.

Friend from graduate school became a lawyer. He handled lots of divorce cases, usually representing the woman.
He said there were two constants that he saw in his practice.
First was that he believed he could have had sex with every woman he represented.
Second was that the settlement was never enough for the woman.
Interestingly enough, my friend put his wife through law school, and when she finished, she filed for divorce.
When I said, 'at least with two lawyers, you should be able to work things out quite easily.'
He laughed, and said she had hired the biggest divorce lawyer in the region, and he was hiring a divorce lawyer from NYC.
It was a nasty event. But he won custody of their two children and their two Labrador Retrievers.

A measly $10 mil apiece? Indeed, the rich are not like us. They live in such a rarified atmosphere; enormous sums of money means little to them. It’s all according to what they’re accustomed to, I guess. I do not relate to that at all.
