Washington—President Joe Biden signed an executive order Tuesday to increase the minimum wage to $15 an hour for federal contractors, providing a pay bump to hundreds of thousands of workers.Biden administration officials said that the higher wages would lead to greater worker productivity, offsetting any additional costs to taxpayers.“This executive order will promote economy and efficiency in federal contracting, providing value for taxpayers by enhancing worker productivity and generating higher-quality work by boosting workers’ health, morale, and effort,” the White House said in a statement. The liberal Economic Policy Institute estimates that as many as 390,000 low-wage federal contractors would receive a raise, with roughly half of

Obama tried something similar.
He tried to force all gov't contract workers to be paid the prevailing union wages based on the Davis-Bacon act.
It backfired spectacularly!
When our building needed new insulation in the attic the owner of the company paid his men just what the Obama green subsidy gave for the job.
Obama expected the owner or his workers to squawk but it was better than getting no work, so that's the way they made money and jobs for many workers.
We got our insulation for for "free" if you don't count that it was our tax dollars that paid for the entire job.

Federal contracts are high cost to begin with so Joey wants to make them even more expensive.

Make it $1,000,000 an hour. People can work a couple of hours and retire - assuming they aren't paying $500 for a gallon of gas..

So Creepy Joe is making sure they’re only paid minimum wage? How many federal contracts have people making less than $15/hr anyway?

Union wages are linked to the Fed minimum wage. This is a big payday for unions.

Raising the wages of low skilked, low paid workers does nothing for productivity. The article claims to cover low wage and low skill contract jobs like janitors and care aides. No matter what the wage their jobs will still be the same, they will have the same responsibilities and absolutely no reason to work any differently than before. All that with this increase is continued wage inflation making government paid work way better compensated (with less expectations) than the private sector.

If Biden can rule by executive order, why do we have to pay members of Congress who are doing nothing. All they do is hold their hands out for donations and act like they are the most important people on the planet. It is time for them to start working or go home.

This is a joke on the Federal Civilian Workers making as little as $9.46 an hour under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
The Office of Personnel Management issues salary tables each year, adjusting its base rate for 51 metropolitan regions according to cost of living.
https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/pay-leave/salaries-wages/2021/general-schedule/
New Mexico and a few others are adjusted upward 16.68%, Mid-range Ohio about 20%, Washington DC 30.5% and New York City about 34%.
THe Grade 1 base rate starts at $9.46/hour, the Grade 3 (usual entry level) base rate is $11.60/hour.
This is also a joke on Federal civilian locations that rely on local vendors to supply canteen services. Usually the vendors are selected from disabled local food service owners and they can only cover overhead from their sales to employees. The Feds do not provide paid breakfast, lunch or dinner. Employees pay from their own pockets.
This $15/hour minimum will sink most of the providers, meaning vending machines and cafeteria services will disappeaqr.
Who wants to pay $2 for a hard boiled egg, $6 for a measly tossed salad, $9 for a taco? This $15/hour nonsense will be a disaster starting with Federal service.

Biden has got to be joking. Every time the Post Office gets a raise the mail slows down.
Every time Congress gives itself a big raise, they claim that they will attract better people. Look how that has worked out. Congress now has the biggest collection of criminals, tax evaders, cheaters, grifters, insider traders and outright idiots in the history of the country.

I don't see how it's allowed for the president to command how money is spent. Spending bills must start in the HOR, right?

The bid price for federal contracts just went up to cover the $15. per hour and increase the profit for the owner of the contractor business.
Eat that you stupid Marxist Communist democrats, republicrats GOPe. Never mind, we know your plans goal requires the debasing of American currency through bankrupting the federal government as the dollar becomes worthless on the world money market.

Greater productivity my foot. Half of them are staying home and still collecting paycheck during the "COVID" crisis. They have too much now. Work 20 years and get a pension for the next 40 with 30 day vacations, sick pay and job protection, they are paid too much as it is.

Increasing the wage can only reduce worker productivity since Worker Productivity = total output / total input. To say that increasing the input increases productivity is a perfect example of reporting the opposite to the truth. Of course math is now racist so this is way beyond any reporter.

We used to have a system whereby laws were passed in the House and then the Senate and signed by the president.
Now we have a dictatorship where a demented moron signs any sort of an Imperial Executive Magnificent Decree from On High.....and it somehow is considered law.
This is ILLEGAL.
