President Biden will announce Tuesday a series of public and private-sector investments to extract minerals such as cobalt, lithium and graphite that are needed for electric vehicles and other aspects of the global shift toward a “clean energy economy,” the White House said. The administration expects demand for these minerals to spike 400-600% generally and demand for minerals used in electric vehicles to jump 6,000% over the next several decades. Mr. Biden is fearful the U.S. is too dependent on China so he will trumpet new investments after ordering a review of the supply chain a year ago. “Critical minerals provide the building blocks for many modern technologies

IIRC, there's a boat full of fancy cars burning on the seas somewhere, their lithium batteries suspected as the fire's cause.

Lithium mines are anything but green. I wonder if they use “green” energy to do the mining. Most likely they’re using evil fossil fuels to get to the lithium.

Investments take time, e.g. that "wonderful" Ohio plant to build subs (while we already have New London and Virginia capable of being up and running NOW). And as to to lithium etc,: DITTO. Plus the environmentalists would never allow such mines to come to fruition........PLUS Russia and Ukraine are brimming with already existing plants.

And we did what benefitted the US?

And mined in the deep Southwestern desert at ENORMOUS environmental cost and waste of water when the region is in the middle of a historic drought. Sounds like an AOC bright idea.

Leave it to Biden to figure out a way to increase the price of these materials and thus increase inflation. In keeping with his motto, nothing is built, nothing is back, nothing is better.

I am with others here: What do we have to do to get at these resources? How much destruction do we have to cause?
Ever heard of kudzu? It is a plant from Asia. In North America it is invasive. It climbs trees and smothers them to death. It kills off other naturally occurring plants as well.
In the 1930s and 1940s, Federal government introduced kudzu to control erosion. Of course, later the Feds realized how much destruction kudzu causes in the North American climate. For many years, says Wikipedia, kudzu grew at a rate of 150,000 acres/year. In 2015, the Feds estimated a growth rate of a "mere" 2,500 acres/year. So there is destruction at a rate of between 2,500 and 150,000 acres/year -- brought on by the Feds in an effort to solve an environmental problem. Now, Americans are trying to eradicate kudzu.
What Biden is talking about is just another kudzu. We could just use oil. We know how to deal with it.

That ship that #1 refers to was carrying some very expensive vehicles including Bentley's and Porsches. The entire crew of the ship was evacuated. Most of those cars were the exact type of vehicle Biteme and the rest of the communists want eliminated. High performance cars in which gas mileage is of no concern to the owners. There were Audi's and VWs on board as well. Outside of Bentley, all of the makers of the vehicles make electric vehicles. So, it's entirely possible that one of those electric vehicles caught fire. In which case, it became a situation where the fire could cause an explosion.

Even if there actually is a "global shift to clean energy," starvation will inevitably drive people back to the internal combustion engine.

The U.S. has numerous problems to solve before working on a 'greener' economy. I am SO tired of the fool's policies ( given to him by his handlers ).

He'll need more than Lithium to achieve his green "vision" (= fantasy): like more pixie dust and unicorn farts.

As everyone points out, processing rare-earth metals requires exhorbitant amounts of fresh water that then becomes hazardous waste. The environmentalists won't let him get away with it and it's why we sent everything from the Mountain Pass (CA) mine to China for processing for many years. Maybe that's what Butthead has in mind - increase the mining capacity here and then send all the additional processing business there. 10% for the big guy, of course.

Like ethanol or banning gas ovens in LA: we have to pollute so much more so people can feel like they are polluting less. See, we are saving 'emotional pollution.
