It has been said that “everything is about sex, except sex, which is about power.” An intriguing notion, but incomplete. Speech, especially the fight to control the speech of others, is also about power. How else to describe Facebook’s ban on users sharing the claim the COVID-19 virus came from a Chinese lab? The sudden lifting of the ban, following a White House plan to investigate the pandemic’s cause, only underscores the social media giant’s desire to restrict users’ speech. Now you can’t, now you can. Either way, it’s speech control.CORRECTION*

The little tyrant, Zuckerberg, deserves to have his empire broken up and taken away from him.
Ditto for the bearded Svengali that runs Twitter.
Neither understands the American constitutional concept of free speech.
Both are petty dictators who think their material aid to the worst leftists in the Democrat Party is somehow benefiting this country.
If there were true justice (not just social justice) both would end up in a cell in a striped jumpsuit.

These little twerps never had power, now they do, and they're going to use it to make up for their impotent twerpness. I'm sure it makes them feel good, but they lose a lot of respect personally, just like their democrats politicians do.

It is hard to have anything but contempt for the Press in general-------we really have to stand up and with one voice decry their dishonesty----for every Michael Goodwin or Miranda Devine, there are 200 "reporters" and news outlets who blissfully look the other way. I suspect, by the way, that a lot of this comes from contempt for their readers/viewers, who they are sure are bore stupid and must be led by them, THE intelligent heiracy. How else to explain The NY Times et al........

it became so obvious. Trump and Biden said the exact same thing. When Trump said COVID was created by the Chinese, Facebook censored all discussion on the subject. When Biden says it, they turned off the censors and reopened discussion.
Facebook isn't a social media platform. Its a political platform, and an arm of the Democratic party to influence people to vote Democrat. The Democrats will censor free speech just like Facebook. Do we want that? Of course not! This is one of many reasons to not vote Democrat.

All of America is now cowering because of the "Heckler's Veto".
You're at a concert with 5,000 other people and one person screams: "Don't play that song" ... and the orchestra stops! Or a stand-up comic is telling jokes and one person out of an audience of 500 yells: "Get off!" ... and he/she does! This is where we are now.
A very small minority of people ... BLM or gay/transgender rights activists are just examples ... get to scream & jump up and down and tell everyone else what to do .... and then we do it!! What the heck? Stand up and fight back.
Next time anyone complains to you about any kind of "woke" problem just say: "Ya know, you need to work that out yourself as best you can. Not my problem. Good luck!"
Start small ... start local... slowly change the mind-set!

Free speech is ALWAYS under attack. There are things you can and cannot say at any given time in history, and it changes from time to time. Now, for example, it's "hate"...if I don't like what you say I call it "hate", giving all then the right to censor. Everyone wants free speech; few are willing to grant free speech; fewer still to stand up for it.
As oft credited to Voltaire: "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." Quaint notion, effectively cancelled these days.

Little Markie of Silicon Valley (formerly known as Santa Clara Valley) is just trying to please his Chinese overlords and his commie friends in D.C. where he knows the political power comes from. He's the guy behind the curtain in Wizard of Oz, a frightened little man. Find this source of evil, and cut that off and we will have free speech.

Michael Goodwin has been my favorite opinion writer and reporter for years. He was great on the Lou Dobbs Show. His writing is beautiful and his views are spot on. But, this piece has a very different tone to it. His tone is not just one of worry about the continuing loss of free speech, but he is seriously alarmed that the loss of freedom of speech may be irretrievable. The coalition of Democrats, media, Big Tech is now aided and abetted by the might and power of a "woke" FBI, that will happily arrest US citizens for what is deemed inappropriate political speech. A corrupt and evil coalition of this magnitude, I don't believe has ever existed in this country. And Goodwin's tone suggests he is alarmed there is no way to counteract this malignant power. Once the just might of freedom of speech is criminalized and destroyed, every other Constitutional right will follow quickly.
