In a twist worthy of Mark Twain himself, a St. John’s University professor has been fired for reading a passage containing the N-word from Twain’s anti-slavery novel “Pudd’nhead Wilson” in her “Literature of Satire” class.
Hannah Berliner Fischthal, an adjunct instructor at the Catholic college in Queens for 20 years, uttered the N-word once during a remote class Feb. 10—after she first explained to students the context of the word and said she hoped it would not offend anyone.(Snip) The day after the class, however, she got an email from a student who said she had to “abruptly” leave

It's a book! And the book has words! This is insanity.

St. John's might as well have a book-burning party in deference to all the delicate ''N-word'' people, who were never slaves, but want to cash in and get special treatment anyway. Those people don't seem to understand that they are masters of their own lives, instead of the manipulators on the left. Of course, some people will do anything for attention and sympathy!

Next chapter: Fahrenheit 451.
Let's just burn the offensive books. Then we can slowly descend into the ignorance these people value so highly. We are being maneuvered into regression. I'm glad my end is near. This is too painful to watch.

Finding racism in everything and anything is no way to live. Personally, I am offended by racial attacks on anyone, but the leftists want to "remake" the country by destroying what we have. With an honest media, it would not work, but the media is part of the "remake" and even they will not like what results.

I'd wager that you would hear more N-words being spewed out on a black rap radio station than what Mark Twain ever said

If she has any guts or brains(I know she's a prof)she'll get a shark lawyer.
That lawyer can then tell St John's that this case will be judged by a jury of NORMAL people & St John's lawyers know what that will mean. So get that checkbook out Johnny😂

Maybe if we keep leftists busy changing history they will eventually run out of books and other records and simply go home? Yeah, right. They haven't even started yet on past references to "gay" being an abnormal and disgusting condition, or "patriotic" meaning that one is a domestic terrorist, or "family" being a curious but racist gathering of a "privileged" group of people, or "woodsman" being a murderer of trees and animals, or "driver" being an obscene reference to slave ownership, or "savings" being a selfish withholding of money from those who don't have enough, or "starved" being a cruel reference to the zero-body-fat people of sub-saharan Africa, or "home" as a slap in the face to the homeless. They have enough material to practice their lunacy for decades.

First of al, HR should not have been involved.
This complaint should have gone from the Dean to the Provost. HR is not equipped to address such issues involving a professor.
Second, it is important for students to understand that there were white people way back when, who wanted equal rights for blacks. That truth, though, does not conform to 1619 project propaganda.
Finally, Mark Twain(Samuel Clemens) was opposed to slavery, as was Stephen Foster. Yet Mark Twain's work has ben banned as racist, and Stephen Foster has suffered the same fate. And a statue of Stephen Foster was removed from downtown Pitsburgh, because slaves were seated at his feet.
And many blacks, greeting each other, away from whites, say, "what up, my n*gga.,"
Almost comical, hey?

As an alumnus of St. John's (back when we called them Redmen), this is sad, but not remotely surprising. These folks will crush anyone who is not in the club. Even if you preface something that the might find offensive, it will not help you. If they find out, and they will find out, they will crush you. Not to win you over - you are irredeemable, a lost cause, a deplorable - but as a message to any of their own who may have a seedling of doubt. They don't even reach out to me for donations anymore. They treat us as they would treat weeds. One is too many.
What can we do about them? Walk away. Build a new St. John's. We shall be like Florida and Texas, most people will give up on them and join us. Let them evolve into Flint, MI.

There are maturity-challenged, maladjusted puppies in our society that take peculiar pleasure in getting others into trouble over the slightest infraction of silly rules. This professor had the bad luck of having one these “good citizens” in her online class. They are so profoundly selfish and unconcerned about the hardship incurred by their so-called righteous indignation. The pox on them all!

If we ever go to war, and the enemy calls us names, are we going to cower? Alex Haley wrote a wonderful book that used words even more pointed and offensive. He and Mark Twain were both using books to make a point. That point, against racism, is lost on some.

Pretty soon the only people who have jobs will be black. Who will they criticize then. Maybe they will go after the lighter skin blacks saying they aren’t black enough. This should be a topic republicans bring up as a election issue since liberal blacks hate all conservatives and won’t vote for them anyway.

Twain’s epic novel “Huckleberry Finn” used the ‘n’ word dozens of times and it’s one of the most powerful anti-slavery books ever written. If you haven’t read it in awhile it’s worth reading again.

And she warned the students in advance that the "forbidden" word was part of the dialog of the book.
And the book is an ANTI-slavery book. It used the dialog as part of making the case against slavery.
She is proveably NOT any kind of a racist. She is quoting an author from well over 100 years ago.
These nasty, stupid, mentally lazy, hateful, racist little brain-dead twits are just HOPELESS. They cannot learn, they cannot think, they cannot reason. Fools, totally pre-programmed, hateful fools, just looking for a chance to destroy someone over a damned stupid word IN A BOOK.
Yes it is a "rude" word. It is a racial slur. And they call whites every possible name and racial slur in the world with absolute impunity. But if a white person is EVER driven to respond in kind to the racial slurs thrown at them, in a moment of anger.....BOOM, the entire world falls on that white person. A whole world, just ANXIOUS to ruin and destroy every possible aspect of their life for a WORD! Not an action. Just reading a word in dialog from a book that these crazy, hateful little race Nazis have discovered can give them the power to destroy.
I wish there were some way to get past this stupidness, this evil, PRETENDING to be good.
rant off

1972 having been released from active duty I matriculated at a community college. Most of the other students were recent high school graduates. My English Lit class was comprised mostly of teenaged black women and we studied Huckleberry Finn for most of a semester. I recall calmly discussing the use of the word. There was no outrage over Twain's use as we were all mature enough to realize the time at which it was written. The Marxists now have people wanting and seeking to be offended.

The professor is not the problem. She made a point of carefully explaining that the word was part of the dialogue. Her attempt to prepare students to understand the context and times in which the author used the word was lost on some of her students, as well as the powers that be.

Sounds to me like they have some aggressive Leftists whose objective was to get the professor fired.
That she 'Uttered the EnWord" was just an excuse.
This same bunch of thugs are most likely fans of the entertainer 'Cardi B', who released 'WAP' the most popular 'rap' (not a song, just vulgar chanting)... and most likely cheered on the 'lyrics'....
I won't even try to post them..... it's nasty.

Marxist "anti-bullying" programs in schools ensure nothing but glowing praise for anything outside the societal norms, starting with homosexuality. The natural corollary is that the traditional is oppressive and needs to be taken down, so today we have virtue bullies who freely ruin the lives of others, and administrators glad to oblige, in this case over a word used 50 times in every rap song.
