The art of the traditional signature is becoming a thing of the past thanks to the rise of online contracts, e-signatures and PIN numbers.
Surveys show that just a fifth of young adults aged 18 to 24 now have a personal signature, and a similar share of adults use their signature so infrequently, they can't produce the same one consistently.
And that matches what teachers are seeing.
Dr Lori Koerner, the assistant superintendent for the Riverhead Central School District in New York, told DailyMail.com: 'I have encountered too many secondary students and employment candidates who cannot sign documents relative to their onboarding process.'

It's not an any more problem, it's a, they never knew how problem. Saying any more implies they knew how and forgot. They were never taught how to sign their names.

“..onboarding process..”? What ever happened to clear language? I guess only a person with an Education doctorate could come up with such BS.

Like many in earlier generations, we learned to sign our names in 2nd grade. Many kids going into high schools now never learn it, especially if they develop the everything-online habit.

$16,000 a year per student, each of whom doesn't learn much more than how to fingerpaint. Can public education get any more disgusting?

So . . . . we're worried that they can't sign their names, huh? Doesn't that seem like worrying about the bare minimum? I mean, forget about trying to write in cursive--and maybe even in print--at all, but let's wait and gnash our teeth because they can't sign their names? PATHETIC!
I understand that times change and things go out of use, but writing seems to be one of those things that shouldn't.
P.S. Whenever I send cards to kids these days, I always have to remind myself to print. Otherwise, they can't read what I write!

"Here, just put your X right here". Shameful and embarrassing. In elementary school we could not wait to become third graders and learn how to write and read cursive. We actually had a handwriting class and teacher. Remember, if they cannot write it they also cannot read it. Many schools are rethinking this notion of no cursive. It helped develop eye hand coordination. Concentration, neatness. It's like when they dropped Home Ec and Shop. Bad idea. We have kids who cannot cook an egg or double a recipe. And they were great classes unlike others. They got to cook and eat their assignment, build a birdhouse and take it home. But kids are graduating well below their actual grade level. Schools, teachers, parents are not doing these kids any favors by insisting they do not actually have to learn anything. Mediocure seems to be enough for some people.

I've decided to join the barbarians - started putting "X" on computer screens when asked for a signature. Neither the computer nor the human requestor cares. Having essential tremors, this has made my life a bit simpler and less stressful.

People who cannot read and write cursive are unable to read historical documents. They also lack the skill to research historical records, deeds, birth certificate, etc. Lack of basic education is not something to be proud of.

Its fairly obvious that the current teaching strategy doesn't work.
Why do we pay them? If they can't teach due to policies, band together outside the system and teach. If they can't teach because they won't of don't teach, make them go flip hamburgers and do something useful. If they are agitators and propagandists, expel them to live in a country they can advocate FOR. Like Cuba or Venezuela.
The Union is always talking about how much we owe teachers. That may have been true in the past. It ain't anymore. Fire them and rebuild with teachers and policies that work.

Lamarck's theory of use and disuse. There is a scientific basis for the practice of cursive writing. Use of finger muscles and muscle memory! You don't use those muscles, they atrophy!!

Hopefully nobody ever addresses a letter or other piece of mail in cursive since postal workers who do not read cursive will have to send the letter to the dead letter office. Our society is becoming more and more disgusting every day. Oh, wait. What was I thinking? Each postal worker can have an app on their phone that can scan the cursive and translate into printing for the uneducated person.

Really, Teachers doing a BAD JOB then whining about the results?
Maybe if you didn't waste the students time with Indoctrination and taught the students properly this would not happen!
DELETE the Teachers Unions and put their leadership in PRISON. Harsh you say...what is your solution to this obvious CHILD ABUSE?

Just have the Mark of the Beast tattooed on your forehead, and you're good to go in any situation. Hey kids! Now you too can enjoy the slavers' insistence that you don't learn to write. Next up: reading. Many also cannot read an analog clock. They would still work after an EMP. When you hear the morning whistle, just proceed to the field or the mill. They'll tell you when your workday is over. And you will be happy!

I also remember learning penmanship in second grade. I'm left handed, as was my second grade teacher. I remember her saying that no one would switch me (to right handed) but she was going to show me how to hold the pencil correctly so that my handwriting would be legible. I've actually had people complement me on the neatness of my writing. Thank you, Mrs. Leonard!!!

Literacy was one of the keys to the prosperity of Western culture. People who can't read won't know what history has already taught us. So we will return to feudalism and might makes right. Freedom can kiss its own ass goodbye.

Interesting in that you need to place a signature on you voter registration which needs to match the one submitted with the ballot.
Now, you see how if someone signed for you then the same signature is on the ballot it matches up, thus, looks like a valid voter.
May need to go to fingerprints folks.

Today if you write an X it either means Twitter or Black Muslims. Or you are playing Tic Tac Dough. When this country was founded there was no public education. If you wanted your offspring educated you pair for it. Not the government.

To be replaced with the 'electronic signature'. Just press a button! This is what dumbing down looks like. It's just one aspect.

Ah well, no need to sign anything now that there are electronic signatures...but they can't add so they don't need a checkbook or bank account...and they don't need to sign anything to steal from stores....

The teachers who are worried about this and complaining should be praised and not painted with the brush that all teachers are terrible. This stuff starts with the top, the superintendent, school board, union, and committees. You are told what books your students will have for reading, language arts, math, and science. Who writes and publishes these books? Liberals. You are also told you can no longer flunk a student, even if they don't do a darn thing all year. Discipline is out of the window and one or two kids can spoil and disrupt a classroom for the good kids who are there to learn. My two teacher daughters can hardly wait to retire, but are doing their best to teach the kids what they need to learn now because they care about them. I am thankful I retired before all of this. BTW, my daughters teach cursive anyway.

And they can't do basic math, or recite the three branches of government.
However, they do know how to put on a condom and recognize that all white men are bad.

Don't you worry about this folks, and you may sneer at me if you wish but .........
Between digital currency and the mark of the beast, signing your name
will be as useless and unimportant as an old worn out tattered flip flop sandal !
EVERYTHING transacted in ANY way will be done with computers and scanners
and there will no longer be anything that resembles 'writing'.
Shame really because the ability to record or write something down in order to
remember it and pass it on to future generations is actually considered by some to be the MOST IMPORTANT INVENTION EVER created by mankind !!
