Stocks Slide After Federal Reserve Hikes
Target Interest Rate, Balances Fighting
Inflation And Protecting Banks

Stocks slid after officials at the Federal Reserve announced a 0.25% increase in the target federal funds rate on Wednesday, continuing a slowdown from previous rate hikes meant to combat inflation and marking caution from policymakers given recent tumult in the banking sector. Rate hikes increase the cost of borrowing money, lowering inflationary pressures as consumers and businesses assume less debt. Federal Reserve officials previously set interest rates targets between 0.0% and 0.25% during the lockdown-induced recession to stimulate economic activity; target interest rates now sit between 4.75% and 5.0%.

Initial reaction to the rate hike was positive and the markets went up. But then Powell came out and started running his mouth and the markets dived. Happens every time. Just shut up, dude!

Actually no, the market started falling when Yellen started talking and stating that they would not completely insure depositors. Here is something to ponder, SVB and other banks have huge portfolios of Bonds An increase in interest means selling older Bonds result in their prices being lower than what they would get at maturity. The current value with increased interest rates means it has fallen 15-20 percent BUT our FDIC is backing the ENTIRE portfolios value. In other words it is a huge wealth transfer to the Elite.

They keep adding weights to each side of the see-saw hoping that it will balance before one side comes crashing to the ground. I have zero confidence that they will succeed. SVB bank officers need to see some jail time to discourage others from playing with the life savings of customers. Running a bank is not rocket surgery if you do it correctly.

This is like night following day. Risk averse investors will move to bonds as the bond rates increase. Very predictable and predicted. Huge numbers of risk averse investors were forced into stocks, which scare them, by the essentially zero returns (or even negative) effective rates on bonds which was a result of the bad policy of ultra low interest rates, held far too long. Ultra low interest rates is fundamentally inflationary. Getting interest rates back into historically normal ranges lets risk averse investors leave investment types that they normally have shunned, movingbbto various bonds. This rebalancing is a good thing...but all change cause disruptions.

Why are some Americans having such a hard time figuring out what is happening to our country? And for those who do see, why are so few taking action? One in four Americans say they know someone who died from the COVID vaccine, and 50% now have less trust in government health experts. Sixty-seven percent say they "weren't surprised" hearing that COVID came from a Chinese lab. Most voters agree that the FBI has been weaponized by the current administration, and 61% believe that government agents helped provoke the J6 riot. Ninety-one percent think bail should be set for criminals who may be a danger to the community.

Attorney General Merrick Garland shared on Tuesday his expectations for when a report from John Durham‘s special counsel investigation will be completed, and it doesn’t appear to be that far off in the future. The rare update on Durham’s inquiry into potential misconduct in the Trump-Russia probe came during testimony before a Senate committee. Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) asked Garland about why former Hillary Clinton campaign attorney Michael Sussmann, who was found not guilty of lying to the FBI in a blow to Durham’s investigation, apparently had a badge to get into the bureau’s headquarters in the run-up to the 2016 election.

Photos obtained by The Post offer an exclusive glimpse into the home where the Nashville school shooter lived and stockpiled guns — including the ones used to kill three children and three adults Monday. The images show a typical family home with red tulips popping up in the front yard, school portraits framed on a credenza, a wind chime with a cascade of crosses hanging in a window and a child’s bike propped against an exterior wall. But police said the brick, Tudor-style house is where the mass shooter identified as Audrey Hale hid a cache of seven guns from her parents,

Department of Homeland Security head Alejandro Mayorkas testified, on Tuesday, before the Senate Judiciary Committee regarding how the Biden administration has been dealing with the border crisis. I think it’s fair to say that it did not go well.He testified a couple of weeks ago before the House and he got caught in a lie there. It didn’t go any better before the Senate. Mayorkas was ripped apart by the committee which, at this point, has rightfully lost patience with the Biden team’s inability and lack of desire to do anything to deal with the crisis at the border.

Way back in the mid-1980s, communist Yugoslavia exported the Yugo, a compact car that sold for around $4,000. It was so poorly made that bumping into a pole at 5 mph could total it. Fast forward to today, and a new class of cars has a similar problem. A minor accident can cause a total loss, even if the car’s been driven only a few miles. The only difference is that these cars aren’t cheap imports from some godforsaken socialist state. These are state-of-art electric vehicles that come with an average sticker price of $55,000. Why are insurance companies totaling low-mileage EVs that have been in a fender bender?
