Democratic leaders in major cities nationwide have already moved forward with bans on natural gas stoves even as the Biden administration has pumped the brakes on similar regulations at the federal level. Cities including Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle and New York City — which are collectively home to more than 10 million Americans — have enacted varying restrictions on natural gas hookups impacting gas-powered furnaces, ovens and stoves. Leaders of the Democrat-led cities have argued that transitioning away from natural gas would help achieve climate and net-zero ambitions. "New York City is proof that it’s possible to

What do they mean collectively, the above cities have 10 million people? There a 8.8 million in NY alone. Somebody in the news room needs to learn how to count. Aside from that, where is all this electricity going to come from in order to replace the gas stoves cooking capability?

It’s always the killjoy Democrats who have never held down a real job that pulls off this crap. They know absolutely nothing about the real world and act only on feelings. Yet, they keep getting re-elected. You get what you vote for.

FTA: '"New York City is proof that it’s possible to end the era of fossil fuels, ' said former mayor DeBlasio. Passing a regulation proves nothing, and we already know the result. This goes beyond ignorance or stupidity. We need a whole new definition

What it's about..............bring America into a pre industrialized state. Lowering our standard of living, lowering the availability of food, lowering our population. The left doesn't even try to hide their rotten game plan anymore.

Where do they expect to get the replacement electricity from? Gas to Electric is 30 - 50% efficient. Perhaps you aren't supposed to cook at night. Insanity!!

The gas stove warnings were based on laughable research and zero science. Look it up. This is just another ploy to control people. Like Covid.

The funny part about this is these blue-led cities talking about doing away with gas cooking are where most of the high end lefty chefs live......the ones who always cook with gas stoves. This could get interesting.

All in the name of equality and saving the planet. Wait until they turn off the power entirely. Hope people like freezing to death in the dark. This all about power and who wields it. Every one of these clowns won their office by large margins. Dumb dishonest voters elect dumb dishonest tyrants. Don't call them leaders. This is all on the voter.
Seriously, does natural gas even create carbon dioxide which supposedly leads to climate change?
At least the Democrats are telegraphing their moves. Where are the Republicans? How many of them will turn around and stab us in the back?

#2 they are not planning to bring more electricity. Their plan is to control how much electricity you spend a month. When you got to your allowed figure, probably after one week, they cut you off. Electricity is something they can control.

Adding to what Plex (#9) pointed out..... the theoretical maximum efficiency of the Rankine cycle (the process used in every steam-powered electrical generating plant) is 50%. I recall that a typical power plant efficiency is on the order of 35 to 40 %. At least half, and usually more like three-fifths to two thirds, of the energy produced by burning the fuel is wasted, discharged to the environment at the power plant. Banning natural gas cooking stoves, water heaters and home furnaces -which if my memory serves me are over 95% efficient- and then using the same natural gas to fire the boilers in an electrical generating plant.... results in two to three times the amount of gas burned to produce the same amount of heat at the customer's end-point use. Using a heat pump -essentially an air conditioner that is 'put in reverse' to cool the outside air and heat the air inside the building- for home heating does add efficiency, but the efficiency of heat pumps falls off quite a bit when the temperature drops down into the 30-degree F range.
As usual, these Democrat fools are actually forcing more energy to be wasted, but their real purpose is CONTROL of the people.
With the new electric meters now in use, everyone's electrical meter can be turned off remotely, at the whim of whoever has the knowledge and equipment to send the cutoff signal to the electric meter.

All the feds have to do is ban the manufacturing or importation of gas stoves or alternatively assess a $10,000 tax on the sale of a gas stove and they can pretty much shoot them down. BTW, does 'gas stove' also mean furnace? How is that going to work in really cold climes?

I don't dispute that the climate is changing....in fact, the Earth has been warming since the end of the last ice age. Cyclical ice ages have come and gone for millions of years, without any help from gas stoves.
What i dispute is that anthropogenic CO2 emissions (some caused by the natgas burned in gas stoves) are contributing to that warming.
And, no, a computer simulation model that can't history-match past climate changes may comprise wishful thinking, but does not comprise evidence of AGW.
Can we please ask the adults to come back into the room?

Oops can't cook tonight on my electric stove I have to charge the battery in my EV before the rolling blackout at 9PM. See that's how it going to work in these dumpster fire big cities. If you chop wood in the protected forest for a fireplace you'll be arrested, charged and jailed. This is all after you work, pay taxes to give 5M per black person for restitution. It's a wonderful life in some places.

Re: #2 - Based on 2021 census data, the article underestimates the collective cities' population by 5 million; however, if you include the metro areas, the collective population is around 20 million.
San Diego may be salvageable but imagine, if you will, a US without LA, NYC, SF, and Seattle, cities largely populated and unquestionable led by hard leftists, determined to transform our free country into a "model" communist state.
