Florida Rep.-elect Matt Gaetz said he would resign from Congress should moderate Democrats strike a deal with Republicans to elect a "moderate" House speaker. Appearing on "The Ingraham Angle," the Republican said Thursday night that he was sure that would not happen. "Will you be OK then if there’s ultimately a deal struck with moderate Democrats that [gives] Democrats kind of co-control of the committees, you’re fine with that?" host Laura Ingraham asked. "No, absolutely not. That will not happen," he quickly replied. "Well, that could happen," Ingraham interjected.

You’d be hard pressed to find anyone more against cooperating with Democrats than I, but to be rid of Gaetz, I’d pay to watch this. (Hint: he wouldn’t really. He likes himself too much to resign.) For the record, I don’t mind the delay at all; the less a big government does, the better. I do think every concession McCarthy has made will be a positive for us all. I wouldn’t give them chairmanships though, not unless they otherwise deserved it. I do wish the 5 (or 20 or whatever they are now) had a better person as their point man. Soon it’ll be done one way or another , and Gaetz will revert to his obscure unlikeability. And may God bless the USA.

I don’t get it. Bucking the system is not going to be pretty. One thing that has happened is that a lot of good men and women have had the courage to stand on the House floor and speak the truth about this government and the Swamp. It has been eye opening to see them stand there knowing the retribution will come hard and swift both by powerful colleagues and the media. These courageous Republicans have shown more courage than Kevin McCarthy or Mitch McConnell have ever done. You won’t see either of them ever stick their necks out for the American people. They are too busy trying to do whatever it takes to further their careers and their bank accounts. Mitch is especially focused on the money. McCarthy right now is more interested in power because he knows it is the pathway to massive wealth. You can call Gaetz a grandstanding opportunist but he has done something no one else has done. He spoke truth to power. Grant you it is corrupt power but nevertheless it is the driving force in this government and wields enough power to ignore the rule of law, election integrity, equal justice under the law and has absolved a murderer of the crime that was witnessed by millions in this country and around the world. A 100 lb. unarmed woman was shot without warning in the United States Capitol Building, and another woman was beaten to death by a female officer outside the building which was also caught on videotape. Worst of all, this bunch has done nothing while American citizens were imprisoned on trumped up charges leaving them to languish in prison in horrific conditions. Forget the politics of this damnable action. Basic humanity should have kicked in, but these people have been forgotten left to suffer and very few Americans will even ask that they get better treatment because they know what happens when you cross this administration. So, these are not people you wish to tick off. Yet, these few Republicans stand and call out the way the House actually does business as being corrupt. Their focus is on changing that and I believe it is a worthy effort. You will notice every news commentator is making the case that these people are rebels, terrible examples of lawmakers, disrupters, and foolish. Ever hear them speak about the real concerns that these men and women are bringing up? They want no part of that. It’s all character assassination all the time. Why? Because they don’t want the American people to know the truth. Most Americans don’t pay attention to politics so many have no idea how the House is run. Personally, I want this to go on as long as it takes to get the truth before the public. Win or lose, these people are doing the right thing. They are exposing the underbelly of the House and it is nasty, putrid, and rancid, just the kind of place that these swamp creatures enjoy. Every time they offer a nominee I am cheering their speech because it is undeniably true and no one ever speaks the truth that needs to be heard. Our government is broken. It has been taken over by liars, thieves, and soulless power hungry criminals. Maybe that was an underlying motivation for this spectacle that so many of you revile. For me, I am pounding my fist saying, yes! More truth, but that’s just me.

I watch Gaetz's interview with Ingraham last night. He did say that if Democrats help elect a moderate Republican as Speaker he would resign. When presented with the scenario that Hakeem Jeffries might end up Speaker, Gaetz said that would be impossible. Most interesting to me was when Ingraham asked Gaetz whether he would support McCarthy as Speaker if all demands were met, he did not say yes. Ingraham then said, "So it's personal with you." She caught him and although he tried to weasel out of that he couldn't. As suspected Gaetz hates McCarthy and there is nothing McCarthy could do to get his vote. Congratulations to Laura Ingraham for smoking him out and getting Gaetz to admit what many of us suspected. Hatred fuels him.

After 11 votes in three days that went nowhere, signs emerged Thursday night that Kevin McCarthy may finally have a viable path to becoming the next House speaker. It won’t be easy, automatic or immediate, according to House lawmakers who themselves were processing the information in real time as details of the deal emerged. But a written framework for rules in the 118th Congress was released on Thursday that McCarthy's allies hope will allow many of the GOP lawmakers who have been voting against McCarthy all week to eventually support him.

Two contrasting realities of the present-day Republican Party were on display on Tuesday. In the House of Representatives, 20 members of the GOP's so-called chaos caucus blocked the efforts of 202 fellow Republicans to elect Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) as speaker. The move led to a once-in-a-century standoff that paralyzed the House. Members cannot be sworn in, committees cannot be formed, and lawmakers cannot do any work until the deadlock is broken, whenever that might be. Meanwhile, in Tallahassee, newly reelected Gov. On election night, I was half-watching Florida Governor Ron DeSantis’s victory remarks when something quite extraordinary and encouraging caught my attention. DeSantis evoked Churchill’s “fighting on the beaches” speech, in which Churchill stirred the resolve and patriotism of the British people in anticipation of the invasion of their homeland by the Nazis. DeSantis, of course, was not warning against Nazism: he was warning against wokeism, which he was implicitly equating with Nazism. I had never heard a national political figure treat wokeism with such (deserved) gravity.

Mr McCarthy's party had taken control of the House – the US lower chamber – following the midterm elections in the autumn, with a slim 222-212 majority. Usually, election of the Speaker follows seamlessly, as a formality, with the leader of the largest party a shoo-in for the job. However, recent splits in the Republican party meant that did not happen until the 15th round of voting.
