Why Mike Lee's Amendment to the Omnibus

Late on Wednesday evening following Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's address to a joint session of Congress, members of the United States Senate were back to squabbling over the 4,155-page, $1.7 trillion omnibus bill being forced by Democrats with assistance from some Republicans such as Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky — and the massive bill might be in deep trouble. In a stroke of genius, Republican Senator Mike Lee of Utah decided to try and attach an amendment to the monstrous omnibus that would extend Title 42 expulsion authority that was set to expire this week.

Annnd... this morning, the "independent" Sen. Sinema (channeling the spirit of John McCain) introduces an amendment that provides cover for the DemoCommie party on the immigration issue. Yet China Mitch & his homies are still o.k. with this crap sandwich being force-fed to their constituents. There is no way to describe my loathing for this CONgress.

I don't have the complete list of those senate pubbies who voted to pass the omnibus bill, but Turtle, Shelby, Pierre Delecto, Inhofe, Murkie, Blunt, Moran, Cassisy, Collins?, and .... all voted in support of the bill. I'm sure they all read every page before casting their vote. House pubbies, do the right thing and kill the bill. Kev, this includes YOU.

Lee should have submitted an amendment requiring all members of Congress to send a relative to fight in the Ukraine.

As we previously reported, there have been scattered stories throughout Joe Biden’s presidency about alleged tensions between the Biden and Harris camps, with Biden’s people reportedly frustrated at the veep’s inability to appropriately handle the tasks given to her by Biden, and the Harris camp’s belief being that Biden’s staff relishes pinning his multitude of failures on her. Those tensions appeared to manifest themselves in a very public way back in November 2021 when the two along with their respective spouses visited a D.C. soup kitchen around Thanksgiving to prepare plates for those in need. Videos and photos from the event showed Biden appearing to snub Harris at various points,

Of the several unwelcome revelations in the past six years, the most politically significant is that liberalism as a political philosophy is dead. Oh, there may still be some individuals who identify with it, but for the most part they are old, retired, or cowed into silence by the howling mobs of progressives, the “woke,” and the identitarian left. And how do we know this? We know it by the collapse of colleges and universities as places of open debate and inquiry. And we know it by the abandonment of any kind of honest and principled journalism by the vast majority of the legacy and social media.  CORRECTION*

Political disagreements were not on the menu at Il Postino on the Upper East Side, where Andrew Cuomo and Kellyanne Conway dined together Monday night. The disgraced former governor sat with the ex-political adviser for one of his biggest rivals — former President Donald Trump. Cuomo, a Democrat, and Conway, a Republican, were photographed leaving the Italian restaurant on 61st Street after 10 p.m. The former gov did not comment on the relevance of the dinner as he got into his car. He waved to Conway as they parted ways. The unlikely pair had been at the center of political power just two years ago.
Poll: Voters Say Twitter Tilted 2020 Election 15 replies

For the past two years, the corporate media have earnestly assured us that, for the first time in history, we were blessed with an immaculate election in 2020. It was, we are told, unsullied by unsavory practices once thought endemic to politics. Unaccountably, however, many voters remain uncomfortable with certain curious aspects of that election. The most recent indication of this can be found in a new Harvard CAPS/Harris poll that plumbed public opinion on the so-called Twitter Files.

At dinner time on December 2 , I received a text from Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, founder of SpaceX, founder of the Boring Company, founder of Neuralink, on most days the richest man in the world (possibly history), and, as of October, the owner of Twitter.  Was I interested in looking at Twitter’s archives, he asked. And how soon could I get to Twitter HQ? Two hours later, I was on a flight from Los Angeles to San Francisco with my wife, Free Press writer Nellie Bowles, and our three-month-old baby. In the days that followed, we—the journalist Matt Taibbi; investigative reporters connected to The Free Press,

Imagine if Donald Trump had released this as his “major announcement” rather than his NFT trading cards. Or at least before his attempt to fundraise off of MAGA on social media. This might not qualify as a “major announcement,” but at least it would have been taken much more seriously. Instead, the Trump campaign didn’t even “announce” this. They gave it as an exclusive to Jack Posobiec a couple of hours after Trump’s NFT launch on Truth Social. The strategic fumble is unfortunate, as this actually addresses real issues in play rather than just Trump’s compulsion for self-promotion:

Our intelligence apparatus — or “the deep state,” in former President Donald Trump’s words — has meddled in two presidential elections acting on behalf of the Democratic Party. Instead of reporting on it, the mainstream media have served as willing pawns of these bureaucratic actors to amplify misinformation. Congress has done nothing about it. And no one in any federal agency has been held accountable. How can this happen in a country that prides itself on its “free and fair” elections? Elon Musk’s “Twitter Files,” which have been released by independent journalists in a series of tweets, shed light on how pervasively corrupt America’s intelligence agencies are
How Kyrsten Sinema’s decision makes
Democrats’ 2024 Senate map tighter

Arizona Sen. Kyrsten Sinema decided to shake up the political world on Friday by becoming an independent. The former Democrat is still caucusing with the party in the Senate, so the Democratic caucus still has 51 members. Now, instead of 49 Democrats and two independents within their ranks, the caucus has 48 Democrats and three independents. But that simple math hides a more clouded picture for Democrats and for Sinema herself. Sinema’s interests are no longer necessarily the Democrats’ best interests in the next Congress, and the 2024 Senate map became even more complicated for Democrats with Sinema’s decision. To be clear, Sinema has always been a thorn in the Democrats side

Two months after the FBI subpoenaed the laptop Hunter Biden had abandoned at a Delaware computer repair store, the Drug Enforcement Administration searched the office of Hunter’s one-time psychiatrist Keith Ablow and seized a second laptop Hunter had left with him. The timing of the DEA raid and the fact that criminal charges were never filed against Ablow, coupled with whistleblowers’ claims that the FBI buried evidence against Hunter Biden, raises the question of whether the search was a pretext to recover Hunter’s laptop and protect the Biden family.  While the DEA’s recovery of the second Hunter Biden laptop escaped scrutiny over the last nearly three years

The U.S. Supreme Court finally heard oral arguments in Moore v. Harper last week. The case involves a mundane constitutional issue concerning the definition of “legislature” as used in the elections clause. Yet it has produced panic among Democrats and a torrent of portentous predictions about the death of democracy from various leftist law professors. In the Washington Post, for example, Harvard University’s Noah Feldman expressed alarm that the court took up the “insane” case at all.

A new Yahoo News/YouGov poll finds that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis now leads former President Donald Trump by 5 percentage points in the race for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination. Trump previously led DeSantis by double-digit margins among registered voters who describe themselves as Republicans or Republican-leaning independents. Meanwhile, DeSantis is ahead by even more — a whopping 11 points — among Americans who say they voted in a 2016 Republican primary or caucus in their state. The poll of 1,635 U.S. adults, which was conducted from Dec. 1 to 5,

“Entrenched systemic racism” is a significant risk factor for Alzheimer’s disease and dementia in non-white Americans, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) claimed in its 2022 update on how to fight the disease. The HHS’ “National Plan to Address Alzheimer’s Disease” said black, Hispanic and low-income populations are more likely to face health-related risk factors that contribute to Alzheimer’s and said this disparity is due to “structural inequities” that are the result of racism.

A furious Joe Biden was 'dropping f-bombs' throughout the White House as his team scrambled to find answers to the migration crisis, according to a new book on his presidency. Biden's aides told author Chris Whipple that the situation on the U.S.-Mexico border 'made his blood boil'. Along with vaccine misinformation, it was the problem that most aggravated Biden. Whipple's book, The Fight of His Life: Inside Joe Biden's White House, details how the Biden administration struggled to deal with surging migrant arrivals from Mexico throughout 2021 - and faced mounting criticism.

While the increased risk was relatively minimal, the result is the opposite of how the vaccines have been sold and mandated by government authorities. The highest risk was for those who received more than three vaccines.(Snip)ABSTRACT: Background The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether a bivalent COVID-19 vaccine protects against COVID-19.

Republican Sen. Mitt Romney of Utah said Thursday that he backed a $1.7 trillion omnibus spending bill because he did not trust House Republicans to handle crafting a budget in light of Republican Rep. Kevin McCarthy of California’s difficult campaign for speaker of the House. “House Republicans say that they want to craft a budget, but they haven’t yet been able to select a speaker,” Romney said, referencing the fact that several House Republicans came out in opposition to McCarthy’s bid for speaker. Romney noted it would be very difficult to sort out budgets for the current fiscal year and the following fiscal year.

In a famous exchange in the The Sun Also Rises, Ernest Hemingway wrote: "How did you go bankrupt?" Bill asked. "Two ways," Mike said. "Gradually, then suddenly." "Gradually" and "suddenly" applies to higher education's implosion. During the 1990s "culture wars" universities were warned that their chronic tuition hikes above the rate of inflation were unsustainable. Their growing manipulation of blanket federal student loan guarantees, and part-time faculty and graduate teaching assistants always was suicidal.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell laid blame on former President Donald Trump and a segment of his base for critical losses in key states during last month's midterm elections. McConnell told NBC News on Wednesday that Republicans failed to take the Senate due to Trump's hand-picked candidates, and promised to back "quality candidates" in the 2024 primaries. He also said Trump's "political clout has diminished." "We lost support that we needed among independents and moderate Republicans, primarily related to the view they had of us as a party—largely made by the former president—that we were sort of nasty and tended toward chaos,"

The WHO doesn’t mess around. At least when it comes to spreading propaganda. I will assume for the sake of civility that the WHO genuinely believes that the COVID vaccine is safe and effective. I will even assume that for most people the vaccine is safe, and at least somewhat effective in reducing the likelihood of severe disease in people likely to become deadly ill from COVID, such as the very old and very sick. But I will not concede that critics of the vaccine are spreading misinformation nor stoking unreasonable fears. Quite a few sober scientists and even the health officials of many OECD countries have expressed real and reasonable skepticism

Here’s one part of the nearly $2 trillion American Rescue Plan passed last year that few people apparently read. The bill included more than half a million dollars in grants for tech researchers to develop artificial intelligence algorithms capable of identifying and suppressing “microaggressions” in social media posts. Part of the money was quietly gifted to researchers at the University of Washington earlier this year and they expect to receive the rest of it in coming years as the development work proceeds. You may find yourself wondering how the federal government wound up handing out taxpayer money to develop ways to automatically censor the free speech of its citizens.
