Breaking: Biden Admin Trades 'Merchant
of Death' Russian Terrorist for Brittney Griner

Original Article

Several outlets reported early Thursday that WNBA star Brittney Griner—and I use the term “star” loosely— had been released from a Russian prison in exchange for Viktor Bout. Bout, nicknamed the “Merchant of Death,” is a former Soviet military officer who, up until now, was serving a 25-year sentence in the United States for crimes that included plotting to murder Americans, obtaining and transferring anti-aircraft missiles, and providing material support to a terrorist organization, according to CNN. He was convicted in 2011. But, hey… at least the Phoenix Mercury—that’s the team Griner plays for—has their center back, which makes Joe Biden happy as a kid with an ice cream cone.

The message is now clear to all rogue states -- if you want your spies back (or any other concessions from the US for that matter) just imprison a newsworthy American and Uncle Joe will take care of you. Everyone's happy -- the circus freak is heading home, Russia is in a position to cause further damage to the US, and the Vegetable-in-Chief gets an ice cream cone.

Bad deal. But then, the whole reason the Russians put her in prison was as a trading chip for their criminals and terrorists that got caught. Russians always plan on this sort of crooked, scummy, rotten state actions. Normal operation for Russia.

Bowe Bergdahl walked away from his base on June 29, 2009, and was captured the next day. Bergdahl deserted. In the ensuing search, six soldiers died trying to get him back. On May 31, 2014, the twice-promoted Bergdahl was exchanged for five terrorists and returned to the United States. President Obama in announcing the prisoner exchange with terrorists said, in part: Today the American people are pleased that we will be able to welcome home Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl, held captive for nearly five years. Former FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried is facing the possibility of at least two congressional subpoenas as U.S. lawmakers gear up for the latest round of hearings on the collapse of the cryptocurrency exchange he founded. First up is a hearing of the House Financial Services Committee, planned for Dec. 13, at which Bankman-Fried has been requested to testify. Late Wednesday, the panel’s chairwoman, Rep. Why Does the GOP Elite Hate Its Own Base? 30 replies

It is one of the most bitter and tragic ironies of our contemporary politics that the leadership of one of America’s two major political parties, the Republican Party, utterly despises that party’s very own voting base. The GOP elite’s scorn for its own voters has, at this point, been a long time in the making. The trend accelerated during the 2009-2011 rise of the Tea Party, a grassroots movement fueled by constitutionalism and anti-elite populism. The crustier elements of the Republican establishment ran as far away as possible from the Tea Party, and the 2012 presidential coronation of private equity plutocrat Mitt Romney effectively killed the movement.

Team Trump has sometimes compared former President Donald Trump's current quest for a non-sequential second term to two-term President Grover Cleveland's similar three election bids. Cleveland remains our only elected president (1884) to have lost a reelection bid (1888) -- in a disputed vote -- only to be reelected four years later in 1892. Yet Trump seems determined instead to follow a different, and bullheaded, Teddy Roosevelt model. Roosevelt left the presidency in 1908, sat out four years, and then lost a reelection bid in 1912, split and alienated the Republican Party, and ensured the election of the progressive Woodrow Wilson.

The Georgia runoff is over. Raphael Warnock came out on top (as expected). And Republicans are once again running the “quality candidate” canard as the reason for Herschel Walker’s loss (in addition to the overblown, overused, Trump scapegoat). Yet despite the fact Walker was outspent by Warnock nearly 3 to 1 (Warnock spent $126,232,942 to Walker’s $48,455,356), Walker performed remarkably well, netting 48.6 percent of the vote to Warnock’s 51.4 percent. This as Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp only came out in full force for Walker after he coasted to reelection in November (loaning his field organizing team to the Senate Leadership Fund — the GOP’s Senate super PAC which backed Walker).
