Walmart's CEO has warned that the retail giant may have to hike prices and shutter some stores amid 'historically high' thefts. Speaking on CNBC's Squawk Box Tuesday, Walmart CEO Doug McMillon admitted that theft has become a major issue for the chain known for its low prices, saying woke district attorneys' lenient policies need to be 'corrected.' 'If that's not corrected over time, prices will be higher and our stores will close,' he told co-host Rebecca Quick. McMillon did not specify in the interview which locations have experienced this record-high level of shoplifting, but his announcement comes after Walmarts in Los Angeles resorted to locking up most of their inventory

I wouldn’t “warn” squat. Just do it. Maybe when The Community starts losing stores, they will police themselves. Oh. Never mind.

Who is this comment aimed at? The looters or regular paying customers? What are we supposed to do with this warning? And for the record, prices are already sky high so that's doesn't scare me.

Maybe if they hired a few employees it might help? I quit going in there because there would only be one register open and they force you to go through the self checkout if you want to get out today. That and prices mislabeled and managers unwilling to fix it. And a gun section that stocks almost no guns or ammunition. Everything they sell can be had with a lot less irritation elsewhere.

Blue cities, right? Democrat-run = crime, homelessness, corruption, shutdowns, masking, totalitarianism, voter fraud. Republican-run = little crime, little homelessness, more prosperity, freedom, far less corruption, no mandates. (Think Florida.) The challenge for Republicans is to learn how to win using different methods which will overcome the fraud of Democrats. How they do that I don’t care so long as it gets done. The GOP have to stop being chumps and pushovers because we’re too nice and refuse to fight fire with fire. GOP voters need to get furious enough to use Dem tactics and balance out the cheating imbalance.

The organized shoplifting against Walmart is often done by people from other cities. In unpstate NY, shoplifters from Rochestwr travel to Syracuse to hit Walmarts, and peole from Syracuse often thravel to Roochester Walmarts to shoplift. If my observation is correct, it would be stupid for Walmart to shut down a particular store - unless they were silly enough to open it in the hood.

Ponder the "raise prices" option. Would that not then be asking law abiding customers to not only purchase their items but to then also purchase items for people who refuse to obey the law and pay for their own stuff? Just close the stores, at least then there's a negative consequence for the behavior we'd like to see less of. Of course then the problem will further migrate it's way to my area but that may not be an altogether pleasant experience since we still prosecute crimes.

This is not Sam Walton's Wal-mart. It is nothing more than a place to sell goods from OUTSIDE the United States to make as much money as possible with cheap not up to standard merchandise. It's not their fault that people are stealing stuff-- its more about the lack of prosecution to the theives! Now that the focus is going on to "self checkouts" and not personal service by employees, things make things worse. Prices have gone up FAR BEYOND the level of inflation at Wal-mart, ESPECIALLY on their 'store brands' and name brand labels are astronomical compared to just a short time ago. They are focused on making as much of that Almighty American dollar to the exclusion of about everything else.

My local Walmart always has both self-check-out up and running and on 3 of the ten human cash registers open. It's so frustrating that I either go to the Dollar General which always has stock in the isles and is dingy for things. Or the more expensive Food Lion that's always crowded and runs out of items quickly. It's crazy. Add that to the idiots running our government with their policies that cause high prices and crime and you have a recipe for a worse incoming disaster.

There's a Wal Mart not far from us that is always busy because almost every other store in that area has shut down. Grocers, office supply stores, hardware store, Big Lots, coffee shops, etc.. have all closed due to theft and a large homeless population that roams the area. The Wal Mart has a constant police presence but is still a crime magnet.

Walmart's warning is wasted. The Democrats view the criminal element of society as a constituency, and are anti-work. They do not care if cities turn into wastelands as long as they continue to prosper. Guessing big-money lefties aren't invested in Walmart anymore. Remember all the stories criticizing Walmart's pay practices? They could care less if Walmart closes.

My local grocery store (in s pretty nice neighborhood) has barricaded all the unused checkout lines in the morning to deter shoplifting. One of the clerks told me shoplifting was getting worse with people pretending to use the self-check, and rolling the carts out of the store without paying. Then, two weeks ago, my knit hat that I'd taken off inside was stolen out of my cart when my back was turned. I've always worn my purse across my body in the store, but who would think an old wool hat would be stolen? My husband told me he saw what looked like a homeless woman wandering around the store in our vicinity, so we think she was the culprit. I hope she's allergic to cats because my cat loved to sleep on it and had chewed holes in it.

A newly released investigation reveals the extent to which American taxpayer-funded non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are sending tens of thousands of border crossers and illegal aliens to towns across all 50 states. The Heritage Foundation’s Oversight Project obtained data showing about 30,000 unique mobile devices at 35 NGO centers and one Customs and Border Protection (CBP) facility stationed along the United States-Mexico border. Ultimately, the investigation “confirmed that a host of NGOs are actively facilitating” large scale illegal immigration into the U.S. interior as CBP transfers border crossers and illegal aliens en masse to NGOs, funded by taxpayers, which then provide transportation services so arrivals can be sent to all 50 states.
