Oct. 14 was a typical Friday afternoon for Zachary Chopko. He hopped on the light rail to head back to work after his lunch break. "It was just supposed to be a quick thing you know just jump on the light rail, it's one stop," said Chopko, of Lakewood. (Snip) Punching and kicking Chopko, the teens screamed profanities. The violent attack was caught on video and shared with CBS News Colorado. "I was being pushed, I was being hit, I don't know," said Chopko. "It was just anarchy. A rampage. Just horrible." Chopko somehow stumbled out of the train and

Bullets, poster #3? That's a bit harsh. If it's found that these 'youts' haven't been arrested before maybe for this first offense, just hang them by their heels for 24 hours and let passerby's throw rotten fruit and vegetables at them. Or better yet, bring back stocks. Some good old fashioned punishment is what is needed here.

I rode that light rail line once when it first opened. Never again. I didn't like the look of the people on it during prime commuting time. Part of the problem is that it is run mostly on the "honor system." You don't have to buy a ticket or go through a turnstile before getting access to the platform or boarding a train. There are no guards or RTD employees on the platforms. There are guards who occasionally stroll through the cars and check tickets, but they only spot check. What could go wrong with a system like that? A friend's son was robbed at gunpoint at a light rail station after his evening restaurant shift and lost all his tips for the night.

USS Arizona sailor Lou Conter lived through the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor even though his battleship exploded and sank after being pierced by aerial bombs. That makes the now 101-year-old somewhat of a celebrity, especially on the anniversary of the Dec. 7, 1941, assault. Many call him and others in the nation’s dwindling pool of Pearl Harbor survivors heroes. Conter rejects the characterization. “The 2,403 men that died are the heroes, and we’ve got to honor them ahead of everybody else. California lawmakers on Monday introduced legislation to penalize oil companies for alleged price gouging, setting up a showdown with an industry that has long wielded political influence in the Golden State. At the urging of Gov. Gavin Newsom, California Senate Budget Chair Nancy Skinner, D-Berkeley, proposed a new bill that would levy a penalty on oil companies when their profits exceeded a legally-established threshold. The money raised by the penalty would then be placed in a fund that would be directed back to taxpayers in the form of rebates. But the initial bill language is vague, failing to define the
