Florida lawmakers are reportedly preparing to reverse their decision to strip the Walt Disney Company of its authority over the state’s Reedy Creek Improvement District, which includes the land on which Walt Disney World sits, the Financial Times reports.
Earlier this year, Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill to take away the firm’s ability to write its own regulations and building codes, as well as operate its own municipal services within the district after it weighed in against Florida Republicans’ Parental Rights in Education Act. The legislation forbade educators from providing instruction on gender identity and sexual orientation through third grade, and was pejoratively

This is the expected outcome, and was probably negotiated by Chapek. The details would be contained in the word "largely." Ideally, Disney would be subject to the same benefits available to other similar Florida districts.

Would this be the real reason Disney CEO was replaced? Cynical minds want to know.

Supposedly has to do with Iger’s replacing Chapek. DeSantis is not rolling over. A read of the article reveals:
“Governor DeSantis does not make ‘U-turns.’ The governor was right to champion removing the extraordinary benefit given to one company through the Reedy Creek Improvement District,” said Griffin. “We will have an even playing field for businesses in Florida, and the state certainly owes no special favors to one company. Disney’s debts will not fall on the taxpayers of Florida. A plan is in the works and will be released soon.”

This should have preceded the quotation in Reply #5:
While lawmakers have expressed interest in reversing course, DeSantis pushed back on that effort in a statement issued by his press secretary, Bryan Griffin.

The book Project Future: The Inside Story Behind the Creation of Disney World by Chad Denver Emerson is a fascinating review of how the Reedy Creek Improvement District and Walt Disney World came to be.

I doubt DeSantis will so willingly allow the legislature to remove that bludgeon from his hand.
Between the loss of revenue and the increase in expenses that is sending Disney into a death spiral atm, the bit will be placed in the Mouse's teeth and Mickey will be brought to heel.

This would be a disastrous move for De Santis...throwing all trust and confidence in his integrity out of the window. Disney deserves to be treated like all other Florida businesses...whether they are right or left...and as a Florida taxpaper and voter, they damn sure better be.

The Republicans won big in Florida; now, we'll see how they either screw things up or reveal their true colors. I'm so tired of getting played. Nobody can be trusted anymore. Walker, in GA, is running around with traitors Lindsey Graham and Tim Scott (yes, both of them are traitors) instead of MAGA; so that means he'll be owned if he wins. I don't know what to say anymore.

DeSantis may not do U-turns, but he'll do a why-turn when the time comes. The last thing he needs going into '24 is a Florida GOP civil war. One wonders if this isn't a scheme to give him one...or call him a weasel Quisling hypocrite RINO in time for primary season.
