Almost 40 years ago Prince Charles and Princess Diana were about to embark on their first overseas trip, a gruelling 40 days of heat and dust criss-crossing Australia and New Zealand at the height of the southern hemisphere summer. Charles was 34 and the Princess just 21 for a tour that was to see not just the birth of ‘Di-mania’ but also the beginnings of the mistrust and resentment that were, within a decade, to overwhelm the marriage. Four decades on and William and Kate next week will leave for their first official visit abroad in their new status as Prince and Princess of Wales.

Thumbs up, #2. What is with these ubiquitous and cheesy awards anyway? Obviously they are cash cows and it is clear that Harry and her need free publicity but why do the heir apparent and his wife bother with them? Do they need the accolades? If earnestly doing good work for the benefit of the people of Britain isn’t enough to sustain the Windsor’s in the eyes of the British then flying hither and yon to attend award ceremonies won’t cut it. Being seen at glitzy public events celebrating efforts to guarantee that elites remain in privileged positions while impoverishing everyone else and calling it “saving the planet” is not going to help. Without unrelenting dignity the Windsor’s are nothing but frauds.

There's no battle for America's heart. Many could care less about either couple. I, on the other hand, think William and Kate are excellent role models for their generation, focusing on their children and each other. The mental health programs and early childhood programs they are involved in are exemplary. Kate won my heart a long time ago! As for Harry and Meghan, she's a gold digger and he's a wimp, being led around by the nose. King Charles should pull their titles and let them earn a living on their own. Meghan thought she was going to be the new Princess Di. When that didn't work out, she screamed racism and dragged Harry across the pond.

The Prince and Princess of Wales are excellent representatives of their country. They do their duty/jobs with grace and dignity. The other two are a disgrace to the UK and the USA. They think they are important because he is Princess Diana's son. NOT. I am really tired of hearing about her every time they want attention. Go do something important on your own.

#1 nails it right out of the box. The romance of the social-climber Diana and the lop-eared lusty prince did not move a notch on my GAS meter and neither does the current drama. Kate is probably the classiest of the bunch and that's no doubt because she is a commoner. Meghan registers on the negative end of the scale.

#10, allow me to take a stab at explaining this to you. Royalty in the western world was closely affiliated with the Catholic church, in sort of a gentlemen's agreement to not mess with each other too much. The term Divine Right came early - that a king or queen was authorized by God to rule us. Then Henry VIII could not convvince the Pope, who was leery about Henry VIII, to grant Henry an annulment, based on the fact that Katherine was his cousin. (This was known to Henry prior to the wedding.) When the Pope refused to grant the annulment, Henry set up his own religion, which was Catholic in every way possible without being Catholic. Henry, by the way, remained, in his own mind, a Cathollc to the very end, attending Catholic mass every morning. Jumping ahead, and omitting im'portant historical events, war, Medici Popes, we in the United States disdain royalty, while simultaneously admiring royals. I don't understand that, but I believe it is true. Harry is an object of interest, especially for those who can afford his personal appearances. He has rejected royalty, but retains his aura of royal classification. And he married a woman who has drawn him away from his on family, just as some wives are wont to do. He has created a miserable life situaton for himself - I suspect he knows that Charles is not his biological father. (Princess Diana, early into the marriage, gloriously shattered her marriage vows by having sex with many men - and in the case of Harry, may have been impregnated by the man in charge of the royal stables. And if Harry was the product of that haystack coitus, and he and Meghn know that, it helps to explain his disdain for the royal family, but not their royal money.) I hope this helps you to understand why Americans are upset about Harry and Meghan.

Yes #22, eloquent explanation as you always do. However, the continuing Windsor soap operas also make Americans bow down to God and thank Him we do not have a monarchy. The Sussexes are yesterday’s news and may God help them wake up to the truth. Wm and Kate showed us much when they slobbered all over the Obamas in their home with the Firm ensuring the many photographs made an international splash. May they have a lovely visit with the Biden’s. They are probably glad they don’t have to be anywhere near President Trump.

This month, a federal judge struck down Title 42 — the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) authority first imposed by former President Trump in 2020 to allow Border Patrol agents to quickly remove illegal aliens arriving at the southern border. Rather than appealing the judge’s decision, Biden’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas asked the court for five weeks to wind down Title 42.
