Tech journalist Kara Swisher interviewed legendary British comedian Eric Idle on Monday, where he spoke extensively about the state of comedy in his heyday and said he hated conservatives. (Snip) "I grew up in that world," he said, explaining that he was a "war baby" from World War II, noting that fascism was "very real to us, fascism-what can happen if you let one person take over a country, so that still rings very strongly with me in my soul." He also slammed conservatives in his own country, "I hate them intensely, I’ve always hated conservatives, I’m afraid to say I’m very prejudiced against them, they’re horrible people."

Comments:

I know, shocking news, old liberal comedian hates conservatives.

Shut up and act! The narcissism of entertainers, that they actually think anyone gives a rat's butt what they think about anything of import. And the older and more irrelevant these "actors" get, the more they mouth off. I mean who would seriously have their mind changed about the important issues of the day by a guy who made his money by dressing up in women's clothing for laughs.

In Life of Brian, he and his mates made fun of the idea that a man could become a woman. Wonder what happened to Idle. John Cleese still seems to have his wits about him. Oh well. Always look on the bright side of life.

I've never cared much what the political opinions might be of actors or comedians. If they're talented, great. I may watch their performances. But I certainly wouldn't adopt their geopolitical opinions. When hosting the Golden Globes, Ricky Gervais said, "Don't come up to receive your award and use it as a platform to make a political speech. You are in no position to lecture the public about anything. You know nothing about the real world. Most of you spent less time in school than Greta Thunberg."

Eric Idle was a brilliant comedian but has also always been a bitter man. When he was a child he despised the headmaster at his boarding school for making fun of his last name, saying young Eric was worthy of it. The man must have been a brute. I heard heard Idle talk about it many years ago and was surprised at how full of vetch he still was about something that happened so long ago, particularly when he has done so well in life. Success is the best revenge. But in a way he’s become just like the man he hated, spreading discord against people who have done nothing to him. Because he can.

Good points made by #24. Same as many if not most here, I love what Monty Python did. They were an inspired humorist troupe. If Eric Idle hates me because I'm a William F. Buckley conservative, that's his damn problem, not mine. I won't hate him back, and if he reads this, I hope it bothers him because it should. Leftists are miserable people, Eric more than most. And if Idle was truly taken aback by a headmaster's silly comment on his last name, he should have taken a tip from a much better adjusted human being, fellow Brit and rock star William Broad. William Broad, you ask? Who's that? When William was in school, a teacher, irked by his lack of attention during a day's class, called him "Idle," which happens to be Eric's real last name. "Billy, you're a idle person," the teacher snapped, hoping to motivate the lad. William Broad got an idea. A rock and roll singer looking for a good stage name, Billy came up with the best stage name of all: Billy Idol. That's how to handle the name problem. Get a better one. Then run with it.

Mannequins used to practice life-saving CPR aren't diverse enough, doctors have claimed. Researchers want to ditch the reliance on default 'lean white male' models. Doing so will help overcome 'bias' among bystanders and help improve the survival of other groups, they say. This, the team claim, would be done by 'changing the perception of sudden cardiac death' — meaning people recognise it doesn't just happen to white men. Academics from Canada and Argentina found fewer than 10 per cent of mannequins used to promote CPR on social media represented black or Asian people. None were of pregnant women and barely any were of fat people, according to the study.

Senator Manchin’s dirty ‘Inflation Increase Act’ deal, its betrayal of coal country, army of IRS agents, and inflationary spending has paid off some of his backers and made Bill Gates very happy. Gates was described as having personally lobbied Senator Manchin and Schumer in “anticipation of a rare moment in which significant federal dollars might be secured for the clean-energy transition.” Billions of those dollars, ripped out of the hands of truck drivers, veterans and small businessmen, will have been “secured” for Gates and his ventures. The Microsoft founder was described as having “tapped into a relationship with Manchin that he’d cultivated for at least three years”.
