Schools Chancellor David Banks quietly promoted Mayor Adams’ girlfriend to a top job at the Department of Education, just months after Adams hired Banks’ girlfriend as a deputy mayor, The Post has learned. Banks named Tracey Collins—Adams’ longtime partner and NYC’s unofficial First Lady—the DOE’s “senior advisor to the deputy chancellor of school leadership,” Desmond Blackburn. She started the new job in July, and got a giant, 23% raise to $221,597 a year, records show. Hizzoner named Banks’ girlfriend, Sheena Wright, and four other women deputy mayors last Dec. 21. Deputy mayors made $251,982 in FY 21. Both women’s advancement underscores the tight inner circle of the Adams administration.

When the inhabitants of "Animal Farm" decided to assert themselves against their master, they elected one of their own, Napoleon as leader. He was going to be their savior! He soon showed his true intentions, garnering more and more power, usually by rhetoric that convinced his fellow animals to do as he wanted in the name of improving their lot, but in all ways and in everything he did (as opposed to what he said), Napoleon aggregated more and more power and perquisites to himself and his circle of ruling pigs. He surrounded himself with loyalists who took more and more privileges from the rest of the animals, all of whom seemed blind to their depredations and did as they were told. It is always thus with tyrants and the fools over whom they rule. The inhabitants (I would have said "citizens" but they have long ago forfeited that title) of NYC are worse fools than the inhabitants of Manor Farm in Orwell's' novel; they are supposed to be endowed with human intelligence. By their voting patterns, however, they betray a lack of everything that separates man from brute animal. Instead, they happily vote for the best liar, who feathers his own nest at their expense. Hitler had his Eva Braun; Mussolini had his Clara Petacci. Adams has his Tracy Collins and Banks has his Sheena Wright. We can only hope that they all share a common fate, and sooner rather than later.

A pair of well-worn 19th-century Levi’s jeans—featuring a racist slogan—has sold at an auction for $76,000. Kyle Hauper, a 23-year-old vintage clothing collector from San Diego, snapped up the rare jeans dating from the 1880s at the Durango Vintage Festivus auction in New Mexico on Oct. 1. The second-hand jeans—hailed as “the holy grail of vintage denim collecting”—were discovered inside an abandoned mineshaft several years ago and are believed to be one of the oldest known Levi’s from that era. The antique pants are even complete with a vile racist label characteristic of the times.

American students are struggling even though the government sent billions of dollars in COVID-19 relief money to school districts to offset learning loss, according to a study released Tuesday. The study says the federal largesse fell short, failed to target the schools in greatest need and wasn’t tied to policy outcomes. Analysts at the American Educational Research Association said schools likely need $700 billion to address learning loss, mainly from remote instruction, but received about $189 billion from the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Fund in 2020 and 2021. The funds, including about $120 billion tucked into President Biden’s massive pandemic relief bill last year,
