During a portion of an interview aired on Tuesday’s edition of Bloomberg’s “Balance of Power,” New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) stated that while “the horrific crimes that we’re seeing” keep her up at night and are “frightening” people, “New York City is still the safest big city in America. Look at Chicago, look at San Francisco, look at Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Washington. People leaving New York, I’m not sure where they’re going to go because we are the safest big city in America.” Hochul said, “First of all, public safety is my number one priority. This is what keeps me up at night, the horrific crimes

I got an idea Kathy, walk through Central Park, East New York, Harlem, Brownsville, South Bronx, without your bodyguards at midnight and then let me know if you still think the city is safe.

I guess that is why New York lost a congressional seat in the 2020 census. Crime, taxes and cost of living had nothing to do with it…

Well Kathy some of them end up in Nashville - my brother runs into quite a few of them. Some of them end up in my little Kentucky town and find they like it quite a bit. It certainly is safe.

Can't fix stupid, or restore sight to the blind. Crime does not "keep her up at night". She stays up at night doing crack and working the stroll.

Translation: "Yes, New York is horrific -- but other Democrat-run cities like Chicago and San Francisco, that didn't have the benefit of being cleaned up by Rudy Giuliani a quarter century ago are even more horrific."

This is the thing that I hated about living in New York state. Everything revolves around NYC. It doesn't matter how Red upstate is, NYC dictates everything. If your a republican in New York, you either have no representation or are out voted by morons.
NEWS FLASH Governor. Its not just residents of NYC that are leaving.

The only thing that keeps the NY governor up at night, is her thinking up new schemes on how to defraud NY taxpayers and enrich her pals. She is known as the accidental governor. Short on brains, but long on corruption, she defines the NY democrat party. She is so bad, Andy Cuomo looks better and better. But, the real hope for NY is for Republican Lee Zeldin to be elected governor. I urge every single New Yorker to vote for Lee Zeldin, because at this point your life DOES depend on his election.

And the President brought the price of gasoline down but others are causing it to go back up. As for safe cities, it's all about demographics. I'll take San Diego.

Well, wherever they go, I hope it is nowhere around me.
California refugees have already pretty much ruined the area.
They foul their own nests, then move and keep voting for the same kind of people and policies that ruined the places they came from.

I think she was basing her claim on a statistical artifact that has zero policy significance. Looking at NYC per capita crime statistics, when your population denominator is roughly 8.4 million people, the number divided into the number of victims, lots of truth gets caught up in the noise. If 4,000 citizens (out of 8.4 million) of NYC were victims of aggravated sexual assault in any given year, the resulting per capita stat would be 0.0476 and your probability of being raped would appear rather low. If you are one of those 4,000 raped, then statistical artifacts don't mean much. If you are of a certain non-black race, your probability of being assaulted or murdered jumps exponentially. If you are black, then it is other blacks that will determine your victim status. Violent white-on-black or Asian-on-black crime is practically nonexistent.

Calling NY city the safest city is setting the bar pretty low if you follow the news. But she says crime keeps her 'up at night'. Presumably not at the point of a gun or a knife.
