Younger Americans Identify as Independent

Younger Americans are still less willing to commit to one political party, newly released polling data shows. Gallup released survey data Thursday showing that Millennials and Gen Z Americans are sticking with the “Independent” label. In fact, more of the surveyed Millennial and Gen Z Americans identify as Independent than as Republican and Democrat combined. The poll found that 52% of both Gen Z and Millennials identify as Independent.

Comments:

Political parties have a major problem. Most people don't trust them anymore. They come across as false fronts for crazies across the spectrum. What are they selling? Given the rhetoric, not much more than "extreme" views sponsored by contributors and perpetual conflict, not "reasonable" solutions. Toss in social media and cancel culture...it's just easier to go with the flow, stay in that middle lane.

I don't think it is because of any strong political leanings, I think they just won't commit to anything.

I'm a "Boomer" and conservative. Registered as Republican all my life, but now, nearly in FL I've registered as unaffiliated (only R or D is allowed). I lose the ability to vote in primaries, as FL is a closed primary state, but I can't bear to be listed as a Republican with the feckless leadership of the party. I'm tired of holding my nose when voting. If the GOP can ever get out from under GOPe control I may change my registration. Dump McCarthy and O'Donnell. Stop "go along to get along," that doesn't work when only one side practices it.

#3 I have been fighting this battle for decades as WY will not let me vote in the primary as an independent. There is a viable alternative to R or D, Vote for candidates from the Constitution Party. Most of our problems would be solved if the constitution were followed. The time has come to replace all incumbents who only care about maintaining their power to access the graft, insider trading and campaign contributions that enrich them and their, their friends and families. Good by Liz Cheney.

As a Republican over 60, I can't say that we have done anything to attract them. But it's notable that Democratism is also a hard sell. Maybe the radical Left has pushed that envelope a tad too far.

Not so poster #1 I have always been independent. I've never voted demoncrap in my life for anything. The first President I voted for was Reagan. Even at that tender age I fought the system. My entire family were demoncraps. I'm no demoncrap. Republicans are more to my consideration for elected office. Now the pubs have gone Rino for the most part. I now call myself an independent constitutional conservative.

I changed affiliation to independent after the party of erectile dysfunction pushed and nominated Romney, the second intentional loser in a row. I will not align myself with a party that refuses to fight, does not like to win, and attacks the few of its members who have honor.

Younger Americans don't understand the Constitution, don't pay attention to history, get their news from social media, and can be bought off with government freebies. Democrats are corrupt and Republicans are incompetent. Welcome to America.

The key thing here is that unlike Generation X'ers who might actually COMMIT to something, the Generation Y Millenials like to keep their options open to find the best situation at the time, and the Generation Z group doesn't want to commit to ANYTHING that gets in the way of their personal pleasure options. It is impossible to say ALL members of those groups are that way, but so many have lived in a time of divorce, difficulties of being raises in single-parent homes where the parents are doing the best they can and outside influences on their values which are often wishy-washy. Politics takes a back seat to the prevailing culture. Those who lived through the Great Depression are largely gone now, and the values they had to live by made them the "Greatest Generation". The sacrifice and hard work to survive is lost on the current two young generations is not teaching personal values that are so important to society when so much focus is turned inward and selfishly with so little regard to the future.

Former President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner played a key role in laying the groundwork for Mike Pence to be selected as the 2016 GOP vice presidential nominee, but he admits now that it had a “painful” beginning. In his new book released today, Breaking History: A White House Memoir, Kushner wrote that unlike in other campaigns, the candidate decided to lead the search for a running mate, and Trump initially settled on Pence, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie. Kushner, who was the unofficial campaign manager, wrote that all three fit with Trump’s goal of ignoring the Washington “elite” and reaching out to blue-collar voters.

North Carolina’s Supreme Court has made one of the most insane judicial decisions in the nation’s history, and that’s absolutely not hyperbole. In what can only be described as a full-scale judicial coup, the Democrat-controlled body has ruled that the North Carolina General Assembly is illegitimate and can not enact amendments to the state’s constitution.

When the U.S. Supreme Court repealed in June a woman’s constitutional right to an abortion, Wisconsin’s 1849 law that bans the procedure except when a mother’s life is at risk became newly relevant. Republicans in the Legislature blocked an attempt by Democratic Gov. Tony Evers to overturn the law. Yet there’s disagreement inside the GOP over how to move forward when they return to the state Capitol in January. The state’s powerful Republican Assembly speaker, Robin Vos, supports reinforcing the exception for a mother’s life and adding protections for instances involving rape and incest.

Reservations in Wisconsin, in the Madison and Green Bay markets, have also been curtailed, by more than $2 million.

Barnes will face Republican U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson in November. If elected, Barnes would be the state's first Black senator. Godlewski was the third top-tier candidate to withdraw in the last five days, following the exits of Milwaukee Bucks executive Alex Lasry and Outagamie County Executive Tom Nelson. As the House committee probing the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol continues to reveal how it says then-President Donald Trump and his allies worked to overturn the 2020 election, a bipartisan group of senators has quietly reached agreement on a sweeping effort to overhaul the very law at the heart of the former president's effort -- the Electoral Count Act of 1887 -- and was set to unveil a bill Wednesday. The ambiguous 19th century law attempts to prescribe both the process by which the Electoral College selects the president and vice president and how Congress then counts those votes.

When I was an undergraduate in the late 1960s, I underwent a kind of transformative experience during a classroom debate with another student that I believed I was clearly winning when the philosophy professor corrected me. He reminded me that when engaged in a philosophical debate, as opposed to the 9th grade Debating Challenge, the point is not simply to vanquish one’s opponent but to find the truth. In order to do the former one may use any means fair or foul to destroy the opponent. For the latter one must do the exact opposite and represent one’s opponent’s position in the strongest terms possible.

No doubt still sulking over the Roe v. Wade reversal — the opening sentence of their recent op-ed published in The New York Times is, “When liberals lose at the Supreme Court — as they increasingly have over the past half-century” — two Ivy League professors laid out their claims for an America without Constitutional limitations. They suggest, “the way to seek real freedom will be to use procedures consistent with popular rule.” Of course, the piece is polished sewage: tyranny of the majority is a very real, and very dangerous threat to the individual, (perhaps they should go read Federalist 10, but they likely wouldn’t understand that either).
