In the face of data showing enforcement has been both minimal and has disproportionately affected people of color and those experiencing homelessness, the King County Board of Health voted to repeal its decades-old mandatory helmet law for bicycle riders. The repeal goes into effect in 30 days. The board, made up of elected officials and medical experts from cities across the county, voiced its support for the voluntary use of helmets, passing a resolution Thursday encouraging riders to don the protective gear. But board member and King County Councilmember Joe McDermott said there are other ways of encouraging helmet use that do not rely on law enforcement

NEXT?
In the face of data showing enforcement has been both minimal and has disproportionately affected people of color and those experiencing homelessness, King County Washington has voted to repeal its laws criminalizing murder.

Since the majority of murders in this country are committed by black people, so you could say that prosecutions for murder are "disproportionately" affecting black people, are they going to do away with murder laws next?!?!?!?
I have always thought that helmet laws were incredibly stupid anyway, though I would never ride a bike without a helmet. However, since that only affects me, it should always be my choice. But for them to pick this as the reason to do away with the helmet laws in Seattle is just woke stupidity at its most blatant!!!

Why is it anyone's business if someone we wears a helmet or not? It isn't. It is just another law used to violate peoples' rights when no real probable cause exists. The books are loaded with them. I hope I live long enough to see the firing squads.
I dont back the blue.

The inconsistency is that they let homeless or black thugs openly use and sell dangerous illegal narcotics, yet they insist that the same drug-addled thugs wear a stupid helmet while riding a bike.

Uh, maybe homeless and black riders are the ones who most often ride without helmets. That's the most likely explanation. A more logical response would be to call for an effort to convince them to wear helmets, instead of revoking the law...!

Because the white riders have enough sense to wear a helmet?
What next? Repeal the laws against murder and rape for the same reasons?

Well, it's not as if falling on their heads would make Seattle residents any crazier or stupider.

If you ride a bike and don' wear a helmet, you're dumb, the impact of falling of a bike at 15 mph onto concrete is substantial, I know I have crashed my bike (long story) anyway, if you impact a shoulder, arm, leg, etc. its hurts and you will probably bruise or break something. If that impact is to your head, you'll be joe biden.

So whites tended to comply with the law, and those not complying tended to be non-white. Clearly the law was rayciss by that standard.

This is great.
Enforcement of helmet laws are for the safety of the rider.
Now the blacks can get the head injuries they appear to want.

By "it was enforced mainly against homeless or Black riders", do they really mean it was violated mainly by those riders?

Maybe because the owners of the bike took their helmet with them when they parked the bike? And then the bike was stolen?

This is no different than TaliBiden’s crack pipes for blacks or abortion clinics being located in black neighborhoods. Letting the homeless and blacks ride without helmets means more broken skulls and dead homeless and blacks. Which is what the demonrats want.
However I do agree that wearing a helmet, like getting a jab, should be a personal choice.

It was enforced against people who broke the law. Will there eve be a line drawn in eliminating laws that blacks choose to ignore? It already appears that murder, cop-killing, arson & looting laws no longer apply to blacks.
